Five Things More Valuable Than Money

#1 Thing More Valuable Than Money – Time

The two most powerful warriors are patience and time. – Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace.

No matter what you do, you can never get more time. Yet, you still need money. In order to get money, it will take some considerable amount of time. But how much time are you willing to sacrifice to achieve your goals? Ultimately, we cannot control time. After all, time waits for no man. We can make the most out of our time, however. Whether that be climbing mountains, biking through far away cities, or spending an evening at a pub with friends – it’s up to us to find meaning in the time that we inevitably spend.

#2 – Friendship

Your social circle peaks at age 25. But your salary doesn’t peak until much later. How does that make you feel? Do you think that you’d rather be rich in money, or in friendships. Oddly enough, money has only a limited ability to impact our overall happiness. The benefits of friendship, however, are hard to count because of how many there are. They extend from everything to life satisfaction, to longevity, and beyond.

“Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life.” ― Mark Twain

#3 Thing More Valuable than Money – Physical Wellbeing

In the quest to becoming wealthy, it’s often easy to neglect our physical health. Long commutes, or too many hours perched in front of our computer can kill you. Likewise, not making time for exercise, or letting yourself get out of shape can impact your life negatively in a way that really no amount of money can fix. Before you take that dive into the bigger job, or the project that’s going to make you millions, think to yourself – how will this impact my physical health, not just my wallet?

“It is a disgrace to grow old through sheer carelessness before seeing what manner of man you may become by developing your bodily strength and beauty to their highest limit.” ― Socrates

#4 Wisdom

We often value rich people so much that we assume they hold the key to great wisdom beyond any of us. But is that really true? When you think back at the most important lessons you’ve learned, I doubt many of them have been from the Kardashians or a celebrity or tech mogul. Instead, it’s more likely that you’ve been deeply impacted by the words of a friend, a trusted mentor who had real wisdom. Seeking wisdom in life may be harder than seeking money, but the rewards from wisdom are even greater than financial gain. Plus, if you aren’t wise, you won’t know what to do with your money when you get it!

“The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool.” ― William Shakespeare, As You Like It

The #5 Thing More Important than Money – Romantic Love

As hard as it is to be a millionaire, it’s even harder to find love. True, romantic love is more powerful than all the money in the world. And, like everything else on this list, you can’t buy it no matter how much money you have. It also takes plenty of time and wisdom to nurture love into something that will last – be careful of ignoring it even once you do find it, or you might find you can’t hold onto it for long.

“If I had a flower for every time I thought of you...I could walk through my garden forever.” ― Alfred Tennyson
