Dengeki Daisy is Getting an Anime in 2027

Dengeki Daisy fans rejoice: for the first time ever one of the hit Shojo Manga of the late 2000s and early 2010s is getting an anime adaptation, and will be produced by Aniplex!

Dengeki Daisy (authored by Kyousuke Motomi) follows the story of Teru Kurebayashi – a young high school age girl whose brother mysteriously passes away. She finds solace in the emails from a mysterious entity known as DAISY via her brother’s phone. She communicates with DAISY who is very kind to her and gives her motivation despite the hardship she faces.

However, she also runs into someone who is the polar opposite of DAISY: the antisocial Kurosaki (not to be confused with the Ichigo Kurosaki although they both look a lot alike).

Kurosaki works as the janitor for the school Teru attends. After accidentally breaking a window, Teru gets forced to work for Kurosaki to pay for the damages, and neither of them seems overly happy about it. Kurosaki is a pretty rude guy – nothing like the empathetic DAISY that Teru seeks emotional support from.

However, we quickly realize that Kurosaki isn’t exactly all he seems.

Dengeki Daisy is actually a very gripping and fun story. It’s got a solid mix of mystery, computer hacking, intrigue and romance to whet a pretty broad palette.

The reveal of Dengeki Daisy was originally teased just a little over a day ago when Aniplex posted a cryptic message via a webpage with a countdown. While many different theories abound about what the new anime might be, Dengeki Daisy was on the top of the list of predictions, as well as the one I personally thought fit the teaser best.

It’s been a while since I read Dengeki Daisy. For a while it was my favorite manga to read back in the day when I got my first job. I would read it on the train in the very early mornings before going into Silicon Valley to do a very monotonous sales job.

Now, 20 years after the manga first began its serialization (and 5 million copies sold), the story will be getting an anime adaptation. And from what I know about the story (I’ve read the entire thing), I’m sure it will be a hit!
