Best Cards for Players in Obsidian Flames | Strategy
Pidgeot is easily the most versatile and potentially meta changing card to come out of Obsidian Flames – which is funny because if you didn’t look closely, you might miss it. It’s nowhere near the show stopper Charizard ex is, but it could very well prove to have just as great (if not greater) impact on the meta. Being able to choose ANY card in your entire deck and put that card into your hand once per turn is pretty crazy, and makes Arceus’s previously unrivaled ability look a little weak.
Charizard ex is at once the most valuable and one of best (if not the best) cards to come out in Obsidian Flames for gameplay. With it, a new archetype is added to the list of top decks for Pokemon TCG Standard, and fire decks might actually have a chance at being playable again.
Letter of Encouragement
Although not going to fetch you much on the market, Letter of Encouragement could prove itself to be a very strong card indeed. It works sort of like Raihan – if your Pokemon was knocked out last turn, you get to put two whole energies into your hand! Yay!
Still, it’s like having two energy searches in one card, so that’s certainly something.
Lastly, another card that is simultaneously valuable monetarily and strategically is none other than Ninetails. This card could very well prove itself to be the Sableye for fire decks. It bypasses the Manaphy bench protection that has been the bane of every spread damage deck in existence by letting you place damage counters.
It’s also a pretty valuable card, fetching about 10ish bucks right now online.
Obsidian Flames – Final Thoughts
When all is said and done, for die-hard fans of Pokemon TCG, Obsidian Flames is a bit of an underwhelming set. The reality is that Charizard is such a bankable card that no matter what the form it will collect a nice price, and be a big draw to push product.
However, with few illustrator rare cards, scant cards of strategic importance, this set may be one you want to skip.
That’s not the case for what’s coming up next – the all-too-awesome 151 set coming to stores very soon. I guess as a filler set, this one isn’t so bad.
