Full Surging Sparks Set Leaked, Including 5 Strong New Cards

Today, the Pokemon Company International broke from form, releasing almost every single card from the highly anticipated upcoming Pokemon TCG set: Surging Sparks.

Typically, Pokemon waits until the day before the set launches worldwide before unveiling the full card list. In a move that (should it continue for future sets) hugely bolsters the international spoiler community, Pokemon has released almost every single card from a major set more than three weeks ahead of its release date.

While you can see every single card revealed so far via our Surging Sparks English card list, below I’ll be highlighting a few of the coolest cards leaked today.

#1 Sylveon ex

Sylveon ex

Sylveon ex has been teased to be part of this set for a while, yet it’s still seeing this card in English. Apart from being a gorgeous card that would make an incredible alternate art in future sets, Sylveon ex has a very odd ability called Angelite that could be interesting to see used in Stall decks. While not massively offensive, you could use this attack to offset your opponent’s board, slowing them down as you look to end the game through other means.

Gameplay aside, we’ve not had any Eevee evolution ex Pokemon in the current era of Pokemon TCG. And that’s a shame given how popular those cards can be. While an upcoming expansion will remedy that, it’s still good to get a taste of what’s to come via this Sylveon ex card.

#2 Hydreigon ex 119/191

Hydreigon ex 119/191

Hydreigon ex is the most appealing card coming out in Surging Sparks competitively to me. While there’s a lot going on in this set that players should be excited about, we haven’t seen the likes of a card like Hydreigon ex since the days of Urshifu VMAX. While I doubt this Pokemon will get massively popular in the meta, I think it will make for an excellent antimeta deck, punishing powerful decks that love to bench weak Pokemon like Charizard ex or Dragapult ex, while offering a decent trade into two prize decks like Raging Bolt ex.

#3 Precious Trolley

#3 Precious Trolley

Precious Trolley has gotten a fair bit of hype (as new ACE SPECS seem to get). Theoretically it could replace the previously meta-making Battle VIP Pass. In practive, however, given you are limited to just one of these in your deck, it makes it a fair bit less practical as it will be hard to get into your hand early enough to make a difference.

Still, it’s an interesting mechanic that some decks might be able to make work, especially decks like Terapagos ex that run plenty of Basics.

#4 Gravity Mountain

#4 Gravity Mountain

If you’ve had issues facing down Stage 2 Behemoths like Charizard ex in the past, fear not: Gravity Mountain is a new stadium card that looks to cut them down to size. By reducing stage 2 Pokemon by 30 HP, suddenly those super tough Pokemon are within reach.

This mechanic is very cool to see in a metagame that has such a strong juxtaposition between basic Pokemon aggressive decks and Stage 2 beefy tankers. It will be interesting to see just how much competitive play this card receives.

#5 Flygon ex

#5 Flygon ex

I’ve been seeing Flygon ex floating around online for a while but always in different languages – it’s cool to finally see what this card does. Sonic Peridot is the attack that interests me here, giving Flygon ex incredible damage spread capabilities.

Given the popularity of Dusknoir right now in the meta, you could easily pair Flygon ex with that evolution line and essentially take all of your prizes in a single turn – assuming you play your cards right. I’m sure someone will give this deck a fair try.

It’s definitely exciting to see so many of the cards coming in Surging Sparks early. Already my brain is cooking with all the strategies I want to try from this set. My only hope is that Pokemon keeps up this tradition of releasing the card list early like this for future, main releases!
