How to Get Your Moana 2 Lorcana Promo Card

Moana

Whispers of a special, limited edition Moana promo card getting released alongside Disney’s new movie were leaked some time ago online. However, originally it was only going to be a special promotion for theaters in Europe. Well, that’s all changed now thanks to Lorcana’s creators, Ravensburger, rolling the promo out to the United States as well.

From December 6th-15th, you’ll be able to get this limited edition promo from seeing Moana 2 in theaters at Cinemark theaters. Below, let’s get into more of the specifics of this promotion so you don’t miss any of the fine print, and look at the Lorcana promo itself.

The Moana 2 Promo

So the cool thing about this Moana 2 Promo is that it is not only a unique promo to celebrate this movie – it’s also a spoiler from Lorcana’s yet to be announced seventh set. Although we don’t know the details about that set yet, I think it’s relatively safe to assume that Moana 2 will be featured in that expansion. Maybe we’ll get some crazy powerful new Moana cards – although anything stronger than Maui – Half-Shark seems almost absurd.

Take a look at what the promo actually looks like via this picture from Darren Taylor who already saw the movie in the UK.

You get one card per ticket, meaning you won’t need to fight with your sister, brother or child (let’s be real) over their card. This card appears to be foil like other promos you get from playing at Lorcana league and attending other events. Otherwise, the artwork is the same as the card that will be releasing in Lorcana’s seventh set.

While it’s cool to get a spoiler like this ahead of the set, it might have been even cooler if the card itself was a bit more memorable – like including some alternate art or something like that. As is, I don’t see this promo being terribly valuable or collectable in the short term due to its widespread availability.

How to get your Moana 2 card – read the fine print

As Ravensburger themselves highlight in their press release, tickets PURCHASED between the 6th and 15th of December will be eligeable for this promo. So that means it’s possible that you won’t necessarily get a promo if you buy your ticket ahead of this date for a showtime that happens during the promo period.

While I don’t know for sure that this is how it works, I would be safe and wait to actually buy your tickets on the 6th or after just to make sure you don’t miss out on a promo because of some lame technicality.

Be wary of possible supply issues

I’m not advocating doing a mad dash for promos, but what I mean by this is that I’ve heard from reliable sources that some Cinemark theaters are not expecting to actually get the Moana 2 promo on time. I would check ahead of time to ensure the Cinemark you are planning to see the movie at will indeed be taking part in the promotion.

I don’t understand why some Cinemark theaters wouldn’t be offering these cards when Ravensburger seems to have implied it would be almost a guarantee, but there you have it. It’s not like supply issues are anything new in the TCG world so it’s always best to double check before making the trip and spending the money.

We’re still getting TCG promos in 2024

First of all, from a TCG history standpoint, it’s very, very interesting that a Lorcana card would be getting handed out at one of Disney’s biggest movie events. After some turbulent years for the company’s entertainment arm, Moana 2 stands out as a major success. And somehow Lorcana cards are caught up in all of this?

It’s like we’ve come full circle: in a world heavy with streaming where you can watch movies more easily from the comfort of your own home, Disney clearly recognizes the need to insentivise people to show up at theaters.

It’s also a big moment for TCGs, bringing to mind the early days of the mounting TCG hype in the late 90s/2000s when you would get cards at big movie events from Pokemon (like the famous Mew promo card).

As if we needed any further proof we are in a new golden age of TCGs, the Moana 2 promo is another nod in that direction.
