UNION ARENA: Blue ALO Deck

BLUE ALO is Sword Art Online’s UA aggro deck. The goal of this deck is to strike hard and fast while shutting down your opponent’s ability to block you.

Blue ALO deck list

Let’s start with this deck’s single strongest card: Leafa

Let’s start with this deck’s single strongest card: Leafa

Leafa is a pretty cool card. To start, she’s only a three-cost Raid, making her very easy to play. Her best effect is the fact that characters with 4000 BP or more can’t block her. This makes it relatively easy to sneak through your enemy’s front line. Of course, you’re going to have to have a decent amount of cards in your hand for this to activate.

One easy way to get more cards in your hand is to use Leafa’s other effect before entering your attack phase. This activate main effect also lets you switch a character to active, giving you added aggro potential.

Pair World Tree with Leafa

World Tree feels like an absolute must in the Blue ALO deck. Not only does it enable you to put additional cards into your hand from your field and so unlocking Leafa’s effect, you can use it to raise any characters on your opponent’s field with less than 4000 BP up to 4000 BP and therefore making them unable to block you.

Again, the goal here is to just sneak through as many attacks as possible using your low cost characters before your opponent can build up its powerful removal tools to destroy you.

Get more cards in your hand via Yui

Yui plays a fairly large supportive role in the show. She also plays an important role in this deck, although at first it may be hard to see how exactly she fits in. Let’s look at her two “When Played” effects to understand how they help you achieve your strategy.

  • Look at the top two cards of your deck. Reveal up to one character or site card among them and add it to your hand. Place the remaining cards on the bottom of your deck in any order.

  • Play up to one blue character card with 2 or less required energy and 1 AP cost from your hand set to resting onto your field.

The first effect acts a card search and draw effect, helping fill your hand while also giving you access to additional resources. Meanwhile, the second effect makes it easier to play additional characters to your field. Getting these characters onto your field makes it easier to then target them with your effects that return cards to the hand.

So however you use her, Yui is massively effective to ensure you have the cards you need to both fill your field and activate your hand based effects.

Land of Fairies

Land of Fairies is also a solid addition to this deck. Normally a card like this that lets you add two cards to the hand is solid enough. In this deck that relies on having plenty of cards in hand, however, it becomes almost a necessity.

Use Asuna to also fuel your field

Another way to get characters onto the front line is through this solid Asuna character. While she’s two AP character, she essentially counts as two characters in one. Again, this is going to give you further characters to target with your “return to hand” effects, while also giving you more cards in hand.

Apart from just giving you resources, Asuna grants an offensive advantage. The character you search out via this Asuna character comes into play active, meaning they can certainly help you achieve your aggressive strategy – attacking early on to offset your opponent and prevent them from building up to their stronger combos.

Combo Kirito with Asuna

Before moving on from this swarm strategy – filling your board quickly with characters to overwhelm your opponent – there’s an especially cool strategy you can unlock here by combining Asuna with four-cost Kirito.

Getting this four-cost Kirito into play set to active is the best case scenario off of Asuna. Not only does this give you a strong attacker, you can further chain this effect to play yet another character from your hand for free.

ALO characters that boost from having five or more cards in hand

Although we’ve talked about the Kirito and Leafa characters that gain powerful effects depending on how many cards you have in your hand, there are two more characters to watch for as they will also get significantly stronger if you have five cards or more in hand.

Eugene

Eugene

Eugene feels really strong in this deck. Have five cards in your hand and he becomes a 4000 BP character. His low energy cost puts him in range of your four-cost Kirito’s when played effect. Additionally, you can easily use Leafa’s effect to switch him to active the turn he is played and boost him to 5000 BP.

Kirito

Finally, Kirito gains 1000 BP if you have five or more cards in hand. He’s also got Nullify Impact and can be played for just one energy cost, making him insanely helpful for early game advantage.

While not good in an extended battle, this Blue ALO deck is highly aggressive and very tricky. It’s going to take a skilled hand to pilot but can certainly sneak out some wins in the current meta.
