Blue Sukuna deck overview
Apart from being insanely good, Blue Sukuna brings a fun new mechanic into the game, one that we really haven’t yet seen in this way.
I think the deck that this one is most similar to in how it plays is arguably the phenonenally popular BLEACH Purple deck. The reason I say this is that both decks have a huge focus on getting cards into the sideline. In the case of BLEACH Purple, however, you’re just trying to get sheer numbers into the sideline. Meanwhile, in Blue Sukuna, you’re actually being a bit more strategic about what’s going into the sideline, looking for four cards specifically. Those cards are the Sukuna Finger event card.
Fans of the show should recognize the “premise” of this deck strategy as it literally follows the plot of the show – trying to collect all of Sukuna fingers.
On its own, Sukuna’s Finger is only a decent card with a pretty high cost. Either you pay a life to use it, or you switch one of your Yuji Itadori characters to resting. However, it’s not about this card. What really matters are the kinds of effects that you unlock by having a bunch of these bad boys in your discard.
Sukuna’s Finger unlocks insane effects
Let’s dive into what these effects exactly are below.
Two-action Itadori
Let’s start with the relatively tame Yuji Itadori. The fact that I said that only goes to show you how strong this whole Sukuna Finger strategy is, as this Itadori’s When Played effect is actually quite strong. Basically, you can either return or sideline a character on your opponent’s frontline depending no how many fingers you have in your discard.
Additionally, the Blue Color trigger that Itadori has attached to him is quite good, letting you bounce cards back to the hand on your opponent’s front line.
Malevolent Shrine
Malevolent Shrine might just be the first super-strong site we’ve seen in UNION ARENA’s English version to date. This card is an absolute must-have in this deck, and including only two may end up being something that changes as the meta evolves and people figure out how to optimize this deck.
Basically, this card single handedly bolsters your Sukuna character to near perfect status with all of the strongest keywords in the game. Of course, the only catch is the fact that each keyword is only unlockable by having the required number of fingers in your sideline.
That shouldn’t be too terribly difficult to achieve, however, given the many handy ways of getting cards into the sideline this deck has.
Three-cost Itadori
Back to the more tame effects you unlock via Sukuna’s Finger, this Itadori character is going to be swinging with 4000 BP if you have at least one Finger in the sideline.
Sukuna Raid
Finally, we have the strongest card to gain effects based on the Fingers in your sideline. And that’s Sukuna himself. Using Itadori to Raid onto (of course), this Sukuna will gain additional BP from having just one Finger in your sideline (as evidenced by the “+” sign after its BP metric. If you have two copies of Sukuna’s Finger in your sideline, this character also gains Impact 1.
Apart from that, you also get to draw two cards and Sideline one when he’s played. This is a great opportunity to drop another Finger you’ve been holding onto, thereby further bolstering this character’s effectiveness.
Combine Sukuna with the Shrine Site we’ve already talked about and you easily get a very, very powerful character – indeed the single strongest character in the game with Snipe, Damage 2, and a plausible Impact 2.
That gives me shudders just thinking about it.
Setting up your energy line for success
While the most unique aspect of this deck is the whole Sukuna’s Finger play, otherwise the early game works a lot like other decks we’ve already grown acccustomed to. You have the ol’ one-two in the shape of dropping a zero-cost Nobara and bouncing her via the one-cost Nobara, only to then recycle the powerful early game draw effect again.
The thing with Blue Sukuna, however is that you don’t even need to reliably hit five energy cost on the energy line as your primary cards don’t stretch higher than four-cost. Indeed, you only actually have one card that needs five energy in the entire deck, and that’s the effective Sukuna character.
Five-cost Sukuna is a versatile character
While not as strong as your other Raid Sukuna, this Sukuna should not be overlooked becasue of its powerful card search capabilities. When you play this card, you’ll be able to dig five-cards-deep for two of the cards this deck needs so desperately: Malevolent Shrine and Sukuna’s Finger.
As if that weren’t enough, you also get a powerful freezing effect which causes one of your opponents characters to go into a frozen state for the entire next turn.
And of course this Sukuna’s got a solid 4000 BP which is basically the gold standard for attackers in the game. And don’t forget you can grant all of those handy Shrine benefits to this character as well.
Staple event cards to include
In addition to the event card that is unique to this deck (Sukuna’s Finger), you’ll also be running your four Final event cards and four Special events. These are called Domain Expansion and Divergent Fist.
They’re pretty standard for those two special trigger cards and yet every bit as effective as they are in any UNION ARENA deck.
Strengths and weaknesses of the Sukuna Blue deck
The biggest strength of this deck rests in the fact that you can pretty much turn your Raid Sukuna into the single strongest character in the game if you have all four fingers in the sideline. The downside of this deck, however, is the fact that if you don’t manage to get ahold of the Sukuna’s Finger early enough, you could easily be overwhelmed by decks that have characters who don’t need any peripheral requirements to be almost as much effective.
So I guess if you get things set up right, you can dominate the playing field. Get an unlucky draw, or have one-too-many Fingers in your Life at the wrong time and you could see the tide turn against you.
Regardless, Blue Sukuna is one of the best UNION ARENA decks and incredibly fun, bolstering a solid IP and infinite playability. Ready to get started on building your own Blue Sukuna deck? Get most of what you’re going to need for this powerful new archetype via the Jujutsu Kaisen starter deck!
