Charizard Metal Celebrations Card – is it Holding Up Value?
One of our favorite Pokemon cards in recent memory just has to be the Charizard metal Card only available in the Celebrations Ultra Premium Collection. Not only was that card from one of the best sealed Pokemon products, it’s all around just an epic reprint. Of course, that doesn’t mean it was flawless. Indeed, it’s pretty hard to find 100% perfect condition Charizard metal cards because of a notorious shipping and handling issue that left the Charizard card itself chipped or damaged.
Other than that, we think the Charizard metal card from celebrations is a good buy today. Here are a few reasons why.

Celebrations is Not Going to be Reprinted
Although technically there’s to no way to know for sure if a company will reprint their merchandise, there does not seem to be a reprint of this awesome set on the horizon, meaning that the cards won’t probably see a massive reduction in value from card inflation.
Being Metal Makes it More Durable
If you were to run off and make your own Charizard metal print, it would be nearly worthless. But when Pokemon company does it, it makes it worth a decent amount. I like that this card is made out of metal because it feels like it will likely be a longer term sort of heirloom than a regular card is likely to be. Although part of the value of well kept cards comes from how hard it is to keep them in good condition, for the most part, keeping a metal card in good shape shouldn’t be much of an issue.
It’s Retained Value Well
Let’s take a look at the graph for this card’s market value over the past year:
A couple of things stand out to me from this trend. First of all, this card is still worth over $100 dollars even almost 2 years after it has come out. Additionally, the Celebrations Premium Collection that it comes in is worth much, much more than that. Both have aged well in regards to pricing. The high point on the graph there shows that there is potentially even more demand to come in store for this card. While it might be at a lower point right now, it’s likely to swing back up again in the near future, as people realize that the end of Celebrations boxes is final.
It is sort of odd that as the Celebrations Ultra Premium Collection market value continues to rise, Charizard declines. Personally, I think this is only temporary, and now would be a good time to pick up this card for your collection. However, given this is the trading card market which is notoriously volatile, there’s no way to know for sure what way this card’s value will go.
The Charizard Metal Card is From a Very Special Set
There’s a lot of things that made Celebrations a special set, and the metal cards were one of them. That set is likely to be fondly remembered for a long, long time. It’s called Celebrations, after all, because it’s celebrationg 25 years of the Pokemon TCG. Who would’ve thought it would be alive and kicking all this time later?
Hopefully there will be another 25 years, but until then, this set will likely be one of the most memorable. And being the exclusive metal card from this set will likely make that Charizard metal card always be special for collectors.
The Charizard Metal Card is Based on a Legendary Card
It’s unlikely that many of us will have the resources to go out and buy a base set Charizard Pokemon card anytime soon, let alone one in out of the package condition. However, the Charizard metal card gives us sort of the next best thing. It’s a tremendous reprint of a tremendous card, and even though it is metal it still conforms to the general dimensions of a regular Pokemon card. We definitely would recommend collecting it.
Only a Few Official Metal Cards Have Ever Been Printed
As if all of the above weren’t enough to make you realize how extra special this Charizard metal card is, realizing how seldom offiical metal cards have been printed might. In fact, this has only happened four times, with one more to be added in the upcoming 151 set (available in the Pokemon 151 Ultra Premium Collection).
This sort of scarcity makes an epic card like the Charizard metal card from celebrations pretty exceptional. I think people real only realize this fact even more in the years to come.
