Great Tusk’s attack is your main mill strategy

Part of Great Tusk’s strategy is to stall your opponent. But you also have a really strong mill strategy while stalling in the form of Great Tusk.

Great Tusk

Hero’s Cape

While Great Tusk actually does possess a fairly strong attack called Giant Tusk, its Land Collapse is what makes this tricky Pokemon relaly stand out. As long as you’ve played an Ancient supporter this turn like Sada’s Vitality or Explorer’s Guidance, you can mill the top three cards of your opponent’s deck.

Great Tusk already has decent HP for a one prize Pokemon, but its HP gets a whole lot stronger when you combine it with the powerful Hero’s Cape ACE SPEC card.

Apart from Hero’s Cape, you also have Brave Charm to keep your basics beefed up while stalling your opponent to decking out.

Stall with Pidgeot V and Mimikyu

Pidgeot V has proven itself to be a very versatile card in stall decks, mill decks and even in the super popular Lost Zone Box deck. Its gotten a lot stronger, however, thanks to Hero’s Cape. You can attach Hero’s Cape to your Pidgeot V instead of your Great Tusk and power up Pidgeot V to a crazy 310 HP. This should force your opponent to swing into it a few times. Afterwards, you can shuffle Pidgeot V into your deck along with the Hero’s Cape and use it all over again.

Meanwhile, Mimikyu is a very effective stall Pokemon as it can’t be taken out by opposing Pokemon V or ex. Given most competitive Pokemon decks right now are either Pokemon V or ex centered, this is a powerful capability to defend and stall your opponent.

Use Eri to slow your opponent down

Mill decks have a powerful new ally in the form of Eri. Eri lets you actually look at your opponent’s hand and discard any items they have in their hand. While you wouldn’t be likely to use this too often in a game, it certainly can be a crippling tactic to use to gain the advantage in a host of scenarios, like discarding several Mirage Gates against a Lost Zone deck or maybe even taking out an ACE SPEC card.

Use Poke Gear to find the supporters you need

Poke Gear

Pokegear 3.0

Pokegear is beint used in a lot of decks right now thanks to how helpful it can be in finding powerful supporters when you need them most. Ancient Decks tend to be very dependent on their supporters, so it makes sense you would include four copies of this powerful item in your deck. Use Pokegear to find those Ancient Supporters as frequently as luck will allow and achieve that three card mill with Great Tusk’s Land Collapse attack.

It’s clear that Great Tusk is the new gold standard in mill decks. It will be interesting to see just how successful this deck can be in a Pokemon TCG meta that’s been good for stall decks.
