Raid Kurapika card breakdown

To start this guide out, we’ll be breaking down Kurapika and why this card is arguably the single strongest character in the game right now.

First things first, Kurapika boasts a powerful BP stat at 5000 BP. That’s very, very strong and makes it difficult for any single character in the game to beat it reliably.

However, BP is not the only thing this card has going for it. The more powerful aspect of this card is actually the Snipe keyword ability, in combination with Impact. Using these two effects together virtually ensures you are taking a life point once you are able to play Kurapika and attack.

That being said, it’s not like Kurapika isn’t without its own share of challenges. The main issue is that it takes seven energy to play him in the first place.

Luckily, there are plenty of reliably ways to get the energy you need in play to start Raiding and sniping with Kurapika.

Other Kurapika character cards and how they work

This entire deck’s strategy focuses on getting Kurapika’s Raid character into play – preferably using Raid to play him. To make this happen more consistently, this deck runs an incredible number of Kurapika Raid targets. Below, let’s look at each of these and the advantages they afford.

Just because they have the benefit of acting as Raid targets for your bigger, badder Kurapika doesn’t mean these characters don’t have powerful effects of their own.

Zero-cost Kurapika

Just you vanilla Kurapika – this one is a great Raid Target and that’s about it. However, being able to get Kurapika into play as early as turn two is no laughing matter. You’ll need one in play, after all, before you start taking life with your bigger and badder Kurapika card.

Three-cost Kurapika

This Kurapika can be played for just three Energy. Yet, it functions as a 4000 BP character during your turn if you meet the required energy threshold. That’s important as having 4000 BP lets you topple most obstacles you will face.

Two-cost Kurapika

One of the great things about the Kurapika deck is your solid access to characters with Impact. As we’ve hinted at already, Impact is a pretty broken keyword in this game, making it so your opponent doesn’t even really have the option to block (unless they have Nulify Impact).

The only catch here is that you have to have a character with 5000 or more BP in order to get this attack off on the field. That’s not particularly hard to do in this deck with cards like Kurapika having 5000 BP right off the bat and other cards like Leorio capalbe of easily boosting to reach that number.

Last-but-not-least we have five-cost Kurapika. This guy is your strongest attacker outside of your seven-cost Kurapika. He’s got strong BP, a When Played/When Attacking duo affect that works really well especially when combined with certain other cards, and even has that powerful Impact 1 as long as you have enough energy in play.

If that weren’t enough for you, he also has a strong Color Trigger making him handy even as a Life card and can be used as a Raid target for your stronger Kurapika.

Important Energy Generation cards

The main downside of Kurapika is that it takes a lot of energy to do anything with this deck. You have to make getting energy into play a big priority from the start. To help, you have several options.

We’ll go over your best early game plays to get that important energy onto the field. The magic number you are looking for is six energies, as having six energy in your Energy Line will enable you to take advantage of most of your passive Kurapika effects. Meanwhile, that all-important seventh energy will enable you to play your seven-cost Kurapika Raid character.

These are the characters with the best Energy you will want to prioritize having in your Energy line.

  • Satotz: generates two energy when you use his effect.

  • Leorio: has two energy but will require you to bring a character back to the hand. You’ll want to target Zepile with this effect when possible so you can keep drawing more cards by playing him again.

  • Netero: Gains energy generation (counts for two energy) if active.

You only really need these three on your Energy Line and then any other character and you’ll be able to play the heaviest hitter you want.

Draw support and card search cards

If you thought having access to a second-to-none line of attackers was Kurapika’s main strength, think again! This deck also has one of the strongest card search/draw engines of any UNION ARENA deck out there right now. We’ll take a look at several of the cards that enable you to draw in this deck, but first and foremost is a character who can single handedly change the course of the game if you get lucky enough, and that character is Neon.

Neon

Neon

In reality, Neon is a bit broken of a card. She essentially enables you to saerch the top four cards of your deck for a character and play that character for free. While she does limit the character you play to just two AP cost, that’s not much of a limitation for a deck that runs almost all one action characters exclusively.

This means that (assuming you have the energy to play a seven cost Kurapika, for example, you can play Raid it if it is one of those four cards!

I can’t state enough how strong this character would be and if it were me, I would probably run four of her in my deck instead of the three this player used.

Zepile

Zepile is a strong draw support character, mostly because he can be bounced with Leorio to add even more draw support to your arsenal.

“When Attacking” draw support

Other than Zepile, this deck runs several characters and cards that give you card draw when attacking. Leorio, four-cost Leorio, five-cost Kurapika and even Hisoka grant you draw support in different ways when attacking. Meanwhile, the crazy powerful Emporor Time Absolute Mastery blatantly just lets you draw a card when your character attacks.

I should also mention that when this card is played and you have a Kurapika on the field, you can give Kurapika Snipe.

While all of these effects work differently, they can all be used to gain a strategic card advantage over your opponent, especially if they aren’t focusing their draw engine enough.

There’s a reason Kurapika is one of the strongest UNION ARENA decks right now, and it’s a top contender for best deck in the format among a meta largely dominated right now by BLEACH decks. With high powered BP characters and plenty of powerful effects, Kurapika is a great build to invest in if you are looking to dominate your UA store tournament!
