Lorcana: Azurite Sea Most Expensive Cards
What are the most valuable cards in the phenomenal new Azurite Sea Lorcana set?
As usual, the most expensive cards are the enchanted rare cards. These Enchanted cards feature Lorcana cards featured in the main set but with alternate artwork that make them at once gorgeous and valuable. Adding to the value, of course, is the fact that they are incredibly difficult to pull.
One thing to note before diving into these cards, however, is that they feature a pretty significant departure from past enchanted artworks. Azurite Sea enchanteds instead lean heavily into the pirate/seafaring theming of the expansion, with characters, actions, items an locations reimagined against a cartographic background, bearing minamilistic drawings very reminicent of bare sketches. It’s an interesting take on an established formula and I’m totally here for it.
Below, we will be taking a look at the most expensive cards of the set based on actual market data drawn from real sales.
#1. Tiana – Restaurant Owner (Enchanted)
Princess characters tend to do well from a value perspective when they get an enchanted print. It’s a pretty cool card that feels relatively timely given the recently re-themed Splash Mountain ride in Disneyland to the Princess and the Frog where Tiana is the star. While she’s the top chase from this set, she’s not actually all that insanely valuable. Past sets certainly had chase cards go for more in the early days of the release.
My feeling when seeing these new enchanted artworks was that while they are a bold creative decision by the Lorcana team, they may not be hitting quite as well as more fully rendered characters with all their accompanying colors and style.
Still, I think overtime these Enchanted cards will do well in value because of how unique they are, and the fact that I doubt Lorcana is going to repeat the same pattern soon if ever again.
#2. Baymax – Personal Healthcare Companion (Enchanted)
The main theme of this set may focus on pirates, but one of the characters and properties announced to be included in it is Baymax and the other characters of Big Hero Six. Here we see the world’s friendliest robot thoughtfully examining a butterfly. This Baymax is my favorite enchanted from the set. Not only because it features a very lovable character, but because I pulled it from my one and only Trove from this set.
I’m absolutely stoked to have gotten this enchanted, and it’s definitely up there among my favorite pulls from any Lorcana product to date.
#3. Tigger – In the Crow’s Nest (Enchanted)
An iconic character reimagined as a pirate makes for one valuable card. Unlike the first two cards on this list, Tigger perfectly fits the theme of the set, making it an extra memorable card to pull.
#4. Wreck-It Ralph – Ham Hands (Enchanted)
This Wreck-It Ralph is mostly interesting to me for its powerful ability, one that has the potential to help Steel’s weak matchup against Sapphire decks that like to run a lot of items.
#5. Basil – Disguised Detective (Enchanted)
Lorcana fans may not be aware that we owe Basil a bigger debt than you’d think. This character and this movie are credited with being the beginning of a new era for Disney Animation that would eventually lead to the creation of some of its most iconic characters. Disney history lesson aside, Basil is an interesting character, and this picture pretty strongly sums him up. While not likely to be the single most expensive card in the set, I would expect to see this card up there in discussions for most memorable from Azurite Sea.
#6. Chip ‘N’ Dale – Recovery Rangers (Enchanted)
This one took me a little by surprise to see it ranking so highly amongst the most valuable cards in Azurite Sea. However, given the popularity of Chip ‘N’ Dale in general, I guess I shouldn’t have been all that surprised. Although they aren’t pirates, they certainly tie-in with the seafaring theme of the set, and show that the Azurite Sea isn’t just about piratry – it’s about great adventures on the wide open seas!
#7. Yzma – Conniving Chemist (Enchanted)
This might come off a little strange, but this Yzma Enchanted is one of my favorites. First of all, she’s got a powerful ability that makes her pretty compelling for competitive play. Besides that, the artwork is just really cool here, and I especially like the threadbare drawing design combined with all of the interesting sketches of different ingredients she’s going to use in her next brew.
