Lorcana Meta Report – Shimmering Skies Week 5

While the big news in the Lorcana universe is the announcement of Azurite Skies, Lorcana’s sixth set (and final one for 2024), competitions are still well underway. Last week we saw some very interesting “shifts” in the meta that are definitely worth mentioning. While nothings changes among the big two, last week saw the rise in popularity of a contender for third spot, pushing Ruby/Amethyst just a little further down the line

Below, let’s take a look at the current meta share of each deck by Ink combo as well as take a look at specific deck types that are standing out in the field. All of this data is based on the tournament results collected by my friends at Inkdecks which is a phenomenal site for seeing what decks are popular in the current Lorcana meta.

Ruby/Amethyst and Emerald/Amethyst vie for third place

The top of the meta hasn’t shifted a ton during the last week, with one notable change being Emerald/Amethyst Bounce Tempo sliding it’s way into third deck overall. That being said, it’s not by much (just a mere percentage point) meaning Ruby/Amethyst could be overtaking that spot once again in the near future.

With plenty of challenges coming up, the meta will likely look a bit different in a few weeks.

Amber/Emerald gains notoriety

Amber/Emerald made something of a splash at the beginning of the Shimmering Skies season. After a strong performance at a 60+ person $1k tournament, it seems this deck is here to stay in the meta. This deck that won first by Christian focuses heavily on discard. I’ve always felt Amber/Emerald had the most potential as a discard deck, and this gnarly combination seems to just prove it.

Shift/damage becomes the way to play Emerald/Steel

The other thing I’m excited to see is how firmly taking hold the the Emerald shifting/damage strategy is becoming in the Lorcana meta. After several seasons of that Ink combination being dominated by the discard play, players are realizing the unbridled power of Emerald/Steel when combined with damage inducing Steel songs and Morph’s advanced unparalled capabilities.

Three decks make up the bottom of the meta

While the meta is a bit top heavy with Amber/Steel and Ruby/Sapphire, three decks are hanging out at the bottom of the meta. Those are Sapphire/Steel, Amber/Amethyst, and Sapphire/Amethyst. Meanwhile, Amethyst/Steel Bounce sits solidly around Emerald/Steel in the middle of the meta.

I can see why these three decks are less popular, as Sapphire/Steel has a very troublesome Ruby/Sapphire matchup and Amber/Amethyst has a bad Amber/Steel matchup.

I still think Sapphire/Amethyst is underrated and am glad to see it’s performing decently still. However, it could just be that players have a strong preference for Ruby/Amethyst even to this day, and it’s hard to argue with that deck’s power given it has Be Prepared and Sapphire/Amethyst doesn’t.
