Paradox Rift Elite Trainer Box is Here – Should You Buy It?

Elite Trainer Boxes are always exciting when they come out for new sets, and Paradox Rift is no exception. But is this particular ETB worth the buy? Below, we’ll show you what you can expect to get from your Roaring Moon ETB, and what rare cards we got from ours.

The Paradox Rift Elite Trainer Box is a solid product from a legendary set. At current market price, it’s a decent value and features cool and styalized Roaring Moon (or Iron Valiant) sleeves. However, more serious collectors probably won’t need the extras you’re paying for, and the Scream Tail promo card feels a little underwhelming in comparison to the many epic cards this expansion has to offer.

Paradox Rift Elite Trainer Box – Highlights and Lowlights

The highlight is this ETB comes with 8 Paradox Rift booster packs. Given Paradox Rift is one of the very best Pokemon packs to buy right now, and the kind of rare cards you can get from it, this is the major appeal of the ETB.

The lowlights are pretty similar to what you find from any other ETB – that being it comes with a bunch of stuff that you may or may not need. While the box itself is undeniably cool (we purchased the one with Roaring Moon because we really like that guy), you also get stuff which you probably don’t need by now if you are a serious collector – extra dice, tokens, and low quality card sleeves.

However, if you are new to the wonderful world of Pokemon TCG, these could be perks if you are looking to pick up playing the game.

The main unique lowlight of this particular ETB has to be the Scream Tail promo. I’m not actually sure what the significance of this particular Pokemon is, but I would have found another Pokemon (maybe Roaring Moon ex?) to be much more of a draw to purchase this ETB.

Is the Paradox Rift Elite Trainer Box worth it?

Now for the big question: is the Paradox Rift Elite Trainer Box worth it?

Well, like with any purchase decision, that really depends on you. Do you love having ETB boxes to store cards in? Do you enjoy sleeving up your decks with the latest ETB sleeves?

If none of that stuff matters to you and you’re just looking for the pulls, let’s do some simple math to estimate this product’s value.

The Paradox Rift Elite Trainer Box is currently selling for $37.88 on TCGplayer. That’s an incredible deal given it will cost you $54.99 at big department stores. If you were to buy eight booster packs of Paradox Rift right out, that would cost you a total of $30. I’m not sure how much the Scream Tail Promo is worth right now, but overtime it won’t be worth much, so you could maybe add on $1-2 for the promo card. So in reality, you’d be better off purchasing Paradox Rift booster packs on TCGplayer from a value perspective.

So I would say it’s probably not worth picking this particular product up right now at the inflated suggested retail price, but certainly worth buying if you get it from TCGplayer if you are at all excited about the extra stuff it comes with beyond the booster packs.

If opening booster packs is all you care about, you can’t beat the Paradox Rift Booster Box in regards to bang for your buck.

Paradox Rift Elite Trainer Box Pulls

While your own experience opening packs is likely to vary greatly from ours, we actually had pretty strong pulls from the ETB, including an illustration rare and an ultra rare card. Here are the rarest cards we pulled from the ETB.

We got an:

  • Ultra rare Shauntal

  • Sandy Shocks ex

  • Yveltal Illustration Rare

  • And a Toxtricity ex

Our final verdict

The Paradox Rift Elite Trainer Box is a solid product from a legendary set. At current market price, it’s a decent value and features cool and styalized Roaring Moon (or Iron Valiant) sleeves. However, more serious collectors probably won’t need the extras you’re paying for, and the Scream Tail promo card feels a little underwhelming in comparison to the many epic cards this expansion has to offer.
