The Best Cards Revealed in Azurite Sea So Far

With a release date of November 15, 2024, we’re really not all that far away from the last Lorcana release of the year. If you aren’t familiar yet with this set, it’s theming is based around the previously unexplored Azurite Sea – an area within the mythical world of Lorcana.

To fit the theme, we’re getting plenty of pirates, as well as characters and cards with nautical theming to really tie the set together as a whole.

The storytelling in this set is pretty incredible, and we’ve seen enough Azurite Sea spoilers at this point to have a fairly good idea about what some of the strongest cards are going to be.

Jim Hawkins – Honorable Pirate

Jim Hawkins – Honorable Pirate

Pirate decks have been teased for a while in Lorcana, but we haven’t really had the kind of support necessary to make them work. That should change now with Azurite Sea. This set is filled to the brim with strong pirate characters that could be used in at least a near-competitive grade pirate deck.

The strongest of these cards is arguably Jim Hawkins – Honorable Pirate. Not only is Jim a strong Bodyguard character, he enables you to search for additional pirate characters from the top of your deck.

That combined with his seven will power makes him an attractive card search engine plus defensive wall for pirate decks. I would expect most pirate-themed decks to include him post Azurite Sea.

Yokai – Enigmatic Inventor

Yokai – Enigmatic Inventor

Yokai received a lot of attention online after getting his official reveal from Ravensburger. The key thing here with Yokai is that you can use him to reuse items, or reduce the cost of bigger items. For example, in a single turn, you can play a Pawpsicle, play Yokai, bounce the Pawpsicle back into your hand, play it again, and draw a total of two cards from both plays. Additionally, you could bounce a Pawpsicle and play a Lucky Dime several turns early.

While I don’t think Yokai will be a staple in every Sapphire deck, certain Ruby/Sapphire builds and even Sapphire/Steel builds could make this card work favorably.

Jasmin – Ruler of the Seas

While not revealed in English yet, this Jasmin card is quite strong. Her ability enables her to return all exerted characters to the hand when she is played using Shift. While other characters like the Floodborn Mother Gothel released in Shimmering Skies will still be preferred for most decks, Emerald/Amethyst decks that specialize in exerting opposing characters will be able to benefit massively from this ability, enabling them to effectively clear the board if played correctly.

Yzma – Conniving Chemist

If I had to choose one card from those revealed already in Azurite Sea that’s underrated, I’d have to pick this one. Yzma’s Feel the Power ability essentially guarantees that Amethyst decks won’t ever be without cards in their hand. It’s a powerful ability that sees near universal play when released in other TCGs.

While being a Legendary will make her relatively hard to pull, I’d include at least three of her in my own Sapphire/Amethyst build.

Rescue Rangers Submarine – Mobile Headquarters

Last but not least, this location is looking strong going into the Azurite Sea season. It’s got everything you want from a location bar the passive Lore. That being said, for only a two cost card with eight will power, it’s looking very tempting for ramp decks that don’t really need the early game gains as much as they need to ramp up their Inkwell to achieve later game win conditions.

There are still plenty of new cards to be revealed, so stay tuned for additional cards to be included in this list of best Azurite Sea cards!
