The Best Pokemon TCG Pocket Decks Right Now
Pokemon TCG Pocket has absolutely taken the world by storm. With its simplified ruling structure and more moderate pace of play, players are coming to the game in droves, with massive tournaments being hosted online counting player numbers int he hundereds.
Which are the strongest Pokemon TCG Pocket meta decks right now?
Below, let’s look at the decks that topped the biggest tournament to date to get a stronger idea of what works competitively in this new and exciting game.
Pikachu ex/Zapdos ex
Although Pikachu ex/Zapdos ex was only the second most played deck at this large (350) person tournament, it utterly dominated the field and took first place. It’s not really hard to see why. First, Pikachu ex has an insane attack that dishes out 90 damage for just two energy, making him a relatively aggressive option to use against your opponents. Meanwhile, you have plenty of versatility in this deck including the powerful Zebrastrika which can OHKO smaller Pokemon on the bench or even finish off bigger ones, and the powerful and mighty Zapdos ex which can OHKO anything out there.
This deck is incredibly well balanced and versatile and that’s the reason this deck is arguably the strongest in the Pokemon TCG Pocket meta right now.
Articuno ex/Starmie ex
If you need to know why this deck is so strong, you really don’t need to look much farther than Articuno ex’s insane Blizzard attack to get the gist of it. Blizzard (an attack which old-school Pokemon players should recognize from gen-1 games) doesn’t only dish out a powerful amount of damage to the opposing active Pokemon: it also spreads 10 damage to the bench.
Use this attack multiple times and you could sweep the game pretty quickly.
Helping this deck out is also the secondary attacker Starmie ex which functions in a similar role as Pikachu ex in its effectiveness as a low-energy attacker and the almost broken Misty which enables you to quickly power up your Pokemon with energy.
This deck build used to look a bit differently with players running only the Articuno ex. However, this build looks more balanced and consistent thanks to having Starmie ex as a backup option.
Mewtwo ex
This Mewtwo ex build with Gardevoir absolutely decimated a massive 400+ tournament recently and I doubt it’s going to stop being meta relevant anytime soon. This also happens to be my personal favorite deck. In Mewtwo ex you have a powerful, high HP attacker capable of knocking out almost anything out there. Meanwhile, Gardevoir ex acts as a powerful energy accelerator.
Jinx and Kangaskhan are secondary attackers here who can benefit you situationally, but the real star of the show is Mewtwo and its Psydrive attack.
Here’s the basics on how to play the Mewtwo ex deck.
Charizard ex/Moltres ex
Last but not least is the powerful and combustable Charizard ex/Moltres ex deck. If you haven’t caught onto the theme here yet, strong Pokemon TCG Pocket decks have a lot in common with regular Pokemon TCG decks: their strategies revolve around solid energy acceleration and powerful attackers.
Charizard ex/Moltres ex has that in spades, with the famous fire type dishing out an insane 200 damage. Stats alone make Charizard ex the strongest attacker in the game right now, however he is hampered a little bit by the fact that he is a Stage 2 Pokemon. This makes him relatively less reliable and consistent than the other decks on this list that can dish out a lot of damage with mere basic Pokemon.
The Pokemon TCG Pocket meta is shaping up to be fun and pretty nostalgic, delivering a fun and approachable gameplay that’s taking the world by storm. As the meta continues to develop, I’ll be updating this list. So check back often for more current news on this exciting game!
