Mewtwo ex is My Favorite Pokemon TCG Pocket Deck
After a 1000+ player tournament took place over the weekend, it’s pretty clear that Pokemon TCG Pocket has an insane player base already, despite the fact that the app only just came out officially.
By now, however, we’ve had plenty of time as a Pokemon TCG Pocket community to figure out what the best deck combinations are, and a meta has emerged. Up there among the top Pokemon Pocket decks stand Mewtwo ex proudly.
Below, let’s look at the deck that took second place at the Ursiiday 1000+ player tournament by TiltingShiba.
Breaking down Mewtwo ex
In this deck you essentially get your staple Mewtwo ex deck. And your strongest card is (shocker) Mewtwo ex. This card is very, very strong in the meta right now for several reasons. First of all, it is a basic Pokemon, meaning you don’t need to bother evolving it in order to start taking knock outs.
But it’s not just the fact that it is a basic Pokemon that makes it strong: you also have to take into consideration its impressive HP as well as the fact that its Psydrive attack dishes out a pretty incredible 150 damage.
The only problem here is that Psydrive takes a pretty hefty amount of energy to get going. That’s where the all important Gardevoir engine comes into play.
Gardevoir is vital to energy acceleration
In the Pokemon TCG, energy acceleration is just as vital to a deck’s success as how hard your strongest attacker hits. To make it easier and more reliable to get Mewtwo ex’s attack off, you are going to want to pair it with this powerful Gardevoir card. Gardevoir lets you add an additional energy to Mewtwo ex during your turn, making it much, much more likely you are going to get your Psydrive off before your opponent can build up a strong enough resistance to stop you.
Unlike Mewtwo ex, Gardevoir is not a basic Pokemon. It’s a Stage 2, meaning you are going to have to put in some work to get this Pokemon evolved.
Luckily, cards like Poke Ball and Professor’s Research can help with this, getting you more cards into your hand and raising the odds of evolving Gardevoir as soon as possible.
Jinx is a powerful secondary attacker
While Mewtwo ex is your key attacker, it’s helpful to have a solid secondary attacker around for specific scenarios. For example, you might not always be able to power up Psydrive reliably. In situations where you need to get a quick hit in to finish off an opposing Pokemon and win a game, Jynx can get the job done.
For just two energy, Jynx can hit pretty hard depending on how much energy your opponent’s Pokemon have. Given the kind of energy it takes to power up the top decks in the meta right now, Jinx is a really solid option capable of taking knockouts in a single swing against even some pretty tough Pokemon.
Metwo ex Trainer Choices
We’ve talked about two of the trainers this deck runs already, but it’s worth highlighting the others. Although they are essentially staples in most competitive decks, they are going to be vital to winning with Mewtwo ex. Below, let’s look at what each of these trainers does and why they matter to your strategy.
Giovanni: this supporter grants additional damage to get at those Pokemon who are otherwise just out of your reach.
Sabrina: Sabrina is an incredibly strong supporter, forcing your opponent to switch out their active Pokemon. This is a great play to use to either finish an already weakened Pokemon off that your opponent moved to the bench or to face down a more advantageous opponent.
X Speed: This card essentially enables cheaper retreat, making it easier to move your Pokemon around without the consequences of sacrificing as much energy.
Potion: Healing your Pokemon means it can take more hits and enable a favorable point race for you in the long run.
Red Card: This is a powerful play to keep your opponent from building up too many resources that they could otherwise use to overwhelm you.
It’s exciting to see how much momentum Pokemon TCG Pocket has gained since its release. Try this deck out at your next tournament and ease your path to victory! Also, stay tuned for more updates as the Pokemon TCG Pocket metagame evolves.
