UNION ARENA: Every Asuna Card, Ranked

The seventh set in the UNION ARENA English version is Sword Art Online, releasing May 2, 2025. In it are a surprising number of Asuna cards. Indeed, each of the three energy colors have an Asuna character. But which one reigns supreme? Below, let’s rank each Asuna card by how strong it’s going to be in the UNION ARENA meta.

#1 Asuna (Stacia, the Goddess of Creation)

#1 Asuna (Stacia, the Goddess of Creation)

Other than potentially being Asuna’s best look, this card feels like it has the most potential competitively out of all of Asuna’s cards. There’s a lot to digest in that wordy When Played effect, but essentially she enables you to swap characters and then force them to not move the following turn if you have four or less life. The effect also switches them to resting, opening up spaces in your opponent’s defenses to get an attack through.

I’m totally gonna build an entire deck around this particular baddie.

#2 Asuna – ALO

#3 Asuna – ALO

Asuna’s run in the Mother’s Rosario arc is one of her best outings in the show, and in it we get plenty of character development for her outside of simply how she relates to the show’s main character. Fittingly enough, her elf version is second strongest – she’s a character who buffs based on how many cards of specific affinities you have in your sideline.

This is fairly reminiscent of the C.C. Ashford Academy character we got in Code Geass – a character who became incredibly strong depending on how many Pizza affinity cards you have in your discard.

Elf Asuna is a spin on that same strategy. However, that being said, she’s a little more useful than that C.C. even without meeting the sideline numbers, making her potentially more useful.

When fully powered up, this Asuna becomes a 5000 BP character with Damage 2, lets you draw a card when attacking, and cannot be blocked by characters with 3000 BP or less. Talk about going from good to great!

#3 Asuna – Aincrad

#2 Asuna – Aincrad

Independent and deadly, Asuna from the Aincrad arc was something fearsome to behold. In UA, she’s very handy, gaining Impact 1 if you have Kirito on the field and letting you draw a card when attacking. That’s not really the strongest combo ever as plenty of cards have draw effects and Impact, but this card’s efficacy will be enhanced by the combos you can pull off in the Sword Art Online Blue deck.

#4 Asuna – Aincrad (Starter Deck)

#4 Asuna – Aincrad (Raidless)

Next up we have the Asuna card you can only get from the Sword Art Online Starter Deck. While not a raid character, This Asuna has Impact 1 as long as she moves outside of the movement phase and also an incredible 5000 BP. Blue SAO is all about switching cards in and out of the two lines, making this effect reliable to trigger. Being a four-energy cost character with 5000 BP and Impact 1 is actually pretty insane – not to mention she comes with the handy Active Trigger.

#5 Three-cost Asuna (Stacia, the Goddess of Creation)

This Asuna gets bumped further down the list simply for not being an offensive character. However, she’s incredibly useful, coming with the strongest Color Trigger in the game, two energy generation, and a powerful When Played that effectively lets you add two cards from your hand while dropping your life count to be in range of other powerful effects Yellow SAO has to offer.

#6 Asuna – ALO (Two AP)

#6 Asuna – ALO (Two AP)

This two-AP Asuna is a highly effective supporting character, letting you fetch an ALO affinity character from the top four of your decks and play that character set to active onto your front line. This isn’t a card you’re likely to run four-of in your deck, but makes for a solid tech to help accelerate your board, especially when you don’t have the right cards in hand.

#7 Two-Energy Cost Asuna

#7 Two-Energy Cost Asuna

Despite being last on this list, the two-energy cost Asuna (appearing here as the Winner card you can get from store tournaments) is still a solid character especially considering the two-energy cost. The only thing that brings this card’s playability down a bit is the fact it doesn’t have a trigger. Otherwise having a two-cost character that boosts to 4000 BP would be pretty insane.

And that’s every Asuna character we’ve seen officially revealed so far! Clearly Asuna is a high-powered character in the SAO set – not a single one of her variants above is a “bad” card. That makes sense given her general popularity among fans. Hopefully an Asuna-centric deck ends up topping the UNION ARENA meta (or at least making it to the top tiers).
