All Disney Lorcana Packs Ranked 2024

I’m so excited I get to write a list of the best Lorcana packs because it means there are enough of them to finally compare and contrast their differences!

While more sets will release and we’ll have more cards to choose to make decks from over time, today with four sets fully released and one on the way, there’s plenty to discuss regarding what the best Lorcana pack is.

In this list, I’ll be ranking them from good to great, highlighting some of their best aspects, and why you should consider buying each one.

#5 Ursula’s Return

Ursula's Return Booster Pack

Ursula’s Return Booster Pack

Last on this list is also the most recent set to be released: Ursula’s Return. Even though it takes last place on this list, Ursula’s Return is still a good set, with plenty of interesting cards and mechanics in it. One of the biggest problems with the set, however, is that certain faulty mechanics and exploits in the meta game meant many of the new cards in the set never saw play. The competitive field was just too narrow for a lot of strategies to flourish.

That being said, Ursula’s Return had some memorable moments, including the co-op Illumineer’s Quest that got released (a first for Lorcana) and it also featured some of the most gorgeous Lorcana enchanted cards to date.

#4 Rise of the Floodborn

Rise of the Floodborn Booster Pack

It almost feels wrong to put Rise of Floodborn second to last on this list given I personally enjoyed this set immensely. However, it had its own fair share of shortcomings.

First, let’s look at what Rise of the Floodborn did well:

  • It had an impeccable name and theme.

  • Its enchanted characters were gorgeous and less styalized than later enchanteds.

  • It had a huge impact on the meta game and introduced a variety of new decks into the mix.

Now, what didn’t work so great in Rise of the Floodborn was mainly that it simply added to the dominance of what was already basically a tier zero deck: Ruby/Amethyst. Ruby/Amethyst had a disproportionate share of the meta at that time, making competitive play a bit lopsided.

Also, the Floodborn theming could have been more pronounced. Ironically, the now nerfed Bucky card comes from Rise of the Floodborn, showing just how poorly thought out the whole Floodborn targetted abilities were in this set.

Still, Rise of the Floodborn is a personal favorite of mine and it was a critical stepping stone in developing a metagame that would absolutely explode in the third set.

An additional anecdote: Rise of the Floodborn was the set that saw the end of the Lorcana shortage that really hampered the game in its earliest days. But at the beginning it still had that scarcity element that makes a pack like this fun to chase just because of how hard it was to find at stores.

#3 Shimmering Skies

Lorcana Shimmering Skies

Shimmering Skies Booster Pack

I haven’t actually held a single Lorcana card from Shimmering Skies in my hand yet (at the time of writing), but I’ve seen enough of the set so far to say it’s going to be a big one. For starters, the meta should open wide up again after Bucky gets its errata (something that needed to happen), and this is the set where that comes into effect.

But apart from that, the game overall should benefit from a nice health injection thanks to a wide number of powerful cards getting added to the roster of the various Ink types.

More diverse power added across the various Inks should lead to a very fun meta game post set five, which is why I put this pack at number three on this list.

#2 The First Chapter

The First Chapter Booster Pack

The one that started it all. The First Chapter will likely always remain at the top of the list for best Lorcana packs regardless of how many came out. It just was really, really solid. Even though it had only 204 cards, the game felt deep, with plenty of strategies to leverage even in those early days. Many of the staples released in this set define the game today, and it also is home to the legendary and most valuable Lorcana card to date, Elsa – Spirit of Winter.

#1 Into the Inklands

Into the Inklands Booster Pack

I don’t know how Into the Inklands couldn’t top a list of the best Lorcana sets to date. Into the Inklands was everything good about Lorcana rolled into one, and we may never see a Lorcana expansion quite like it again.

First, it introduced a new Location card type into the game that at once lived up to the hype and fell far short in all the best ways, meaning it didn’t at all ruin the game and only made it better without really changing what we loved about it.

But that’s not all. Something about the mixture of cards added into the game in Into the Inklands landed just about right, with a crazy number of decks seeing play at the competitive level. There was no tier zero deck during this phase of the game, and people loved it.

All of that coincided with what was probably the peak of Lorcana’s hype – culminating in an insanely popular set championship introduction that saw Into the Inkland’s set championship promo ballooning to somewhat absurd prices.

Other noteworthy aspects of this set include it being the first pack to include more than just character enchanted cards, as well as the first time enchanted cards varied from typical Lorcana-styled artwork, preferring a painterly style that would set the stage for more varied enchanted artworks in the future.
