Demon Slayer Yellow Tanjiro Deck List and Guide
UNION ARENA’s fifth set, Demon Slayer, is here and arguably its strongest deck focuses on Tanjiro/Nezuko. In this guide, I’m going to show you a better way to build Tanjiro Yellow that focuses on the many powerful removal/stun effects this energy color has to offer.
The biggest difference between this deck list and the one you are likely to come across most frequently is the fact that it doesn’t run Raid Nezuko. While most would consider Raid Nezuko a staple of this deck, there are actually other, stronger cards you can include. Take, for example, the excellent two-cost Tokito character.
This powerhouse Hashira character is quite possibly the single strongest character introduced in Demon Slayer. Without needing a raid target, Tokito instantly freezes anything on the front line when played. That character chosen doesn’t switch to active at the end of your turn, making Tokito excellent at both offense and defense all at once.
Additionally, Tokito enables you to switch a character to resting when he is sidelined, making him an excellent candidate for being sidelined as a defensive strategy to keep your opponent at bay and your life intact when dealing with an aggressive opposing frontline.
Nezuko and Tanjiros’ strongest combo is removal
Nezuko’s ability to switch attackers in from the energy line isn’t nearly as effective as her two-cost version is when combined with two-AP Tanjiro.
Playing Nezuko to the front line lets you lower the BP of opposing characters down to size, putting them easily in reach of two-AP Tanjiro’s sidelining effect.
Between Tokito and this Tanjiro, your deck has an amazing number of ways to deal with threats before they become a problem, while opening up avenues for success and attack.
To make things easier for your, Raid Tanjiro has an effect that lets you bring Nezuko back from the sideline. This way you can play her all over again, reduce BP and then remove.
And while that is a nice combo, it’s the Tanjiro raid we got in the Demon Slayer Starter Deck that is arguably the stronger of the two. This Tanjiro gain Impact 1 and +500 BP until the start of your next turn – a handy incremental BP boost that keeps him from being taken out by opposing characters in a battle if you need to defend with im.
Always include Shinobu
Shinobu is a highly slept on card. She’s one of the rare ones in UNION ARENA that gives you versatility and choice in how you use her. While she unlocks additional effects by having a ton of Hashira on the field, you don’t need to worry about that in this build. Most of the time you are using her to draw a card or rest a character.
Yellow decks currently don’t have the best draw engines in them when compared to other energy colors. Tanjiro Yellow is no exception, so it’s nice to include a little added draw support like her and then use her other effects to gain the upper hand on the battlefield when needed.
Additional notes on cards
While those are the main brushstrokes of how this deck works, there are a few other important strategies and card choices to keep in mind.
You’ll need a little added energy to make playing Tokito possible. Use Tengen and three-cost Tanjiro to help build up a robust energy line. This will also help when pulling off the Nezuko/Tanjiro removal combo.
Murata helps by giving you the option to extend early while being able to also pull back if you need to strengthen your energy line. That can help you keep a balance between aggression and effective resource management
Lastly, there are two cards who are in here more because of their draw triggers than their effects. One is the zero-cost Obanai and the one-cost Nezuko: both with draw triggers. While you won’t be looking to use Nezuko’s effect often, your deck relies on having Nezuko in play. Additionally, one-cost Nezuko helps you achieve your curve more easily while offering a draw trigger, so that’s why I include her.
Matchups
Strong vs. Blue JJK
This version of the deck goes strongly into JJK. Having access to powerful resting effects like Tokito let you avoid Nanami’s ability to do the same to you when he’s sidelined. Not having any character with more than 4000 base BP also puts Blue JJK easily within striking distance for your Tanjiro/Nezuko one-two combo.
Weaker against Lancelot
Lancelot is not a particularly easy matchup for you as you have to deal with a plethora of 5000BP characters at times. While Tokito can switch these to resting, Tanjiro won’t be able to sideline them with his 2-AP when played effect, and his Impact-dealing blows won’t swing over the 5000 BP boulders.
You can still overcome this and play around it particularly early on, but it’s a tougher matchup for you.
Advantage against BLEACH Purple
BLEACH Purple feels like a pretty even matchup for this deck. BLEACH has more reliable removal, but you have powerful stun effects that can slow them down when needed, and Tanjiro’s 500+ BP boost is a huge boon for you, allowing you to survive more rounds because of it.
Ultimately this version of Tanjiro Yellow will likely be a bit more sustainable than the more rush/style Nezuko build. With the right removal and stun effects, your Tanjiro Yellow will thrive in the current meta.
