1st Place Lorcana: Amber/Emerald Discard Deck
Despite another popular discard deck getting most of the attention lately, in some ways, you could consider Amber/Emerald to be the gold standard of discard deck in Lorcana. It’s the purest form of discard, meaning the core strategy is to discard, not just work as a supporting role to help you dominate the board.
In reality, the Amber/Emerald discard deck makes the most sense as these two Ink types have many cards that are powerful discard engines. When paired together, they create incredible synergy that will quickly rid opponent’s of their resources.

Amber/Emerald delivers a powerful draw engine
Amber/Emerald boasts a powerful draw engine. The best thing about this deck is that it’s not like you get nothing out of discarding your opponent’s hand. If you have Prince John in play, you’ll gain cards every time your opponent discards a card.
Get Prince John out as early as possible
Prince John is a unique draw engine as he allows you to draw cards whenever your opponent discards cards.
While you can start discarding your opponent’s cards whenever you want, it’s most advantageous to do so once you have Prince John on the field. That means playing your Sudden Chill song card, You Have Forgotten Me, or any of the other cards that help gain card advantage over your foes.
Meanwhile, Diablo keeps the cards coming regardless. As long as you have this card in play, you’ll keep drawing more cards when your opponent draws cards. So regardless if your opponent draws a card or discards a card, you’re getting more resources. It’s hard to beat that kind of a card advantage.
The number of discard cards at your disposal is insane
The sheer number of discard cards you can play is pretty incredible when you combine Amber and Emerald. However, you strongest are going to be your three song discard cards: We Don’t Talk About Bruno, The Bare Necessities, and Sudden Chill.
Each has their advantages, but the strongest is probably We Don’t Talk About Bruno.
Not only does Bruno let you remove a card from the field, it also discards. Oftentimes – if you’ve played your cards right – by the time you drop a Bruno the card returned to the hand will be the one discarded, making it a powerful weapon to use against your foes.
Amber/Emerald has plenty of other ways to befuddle your opponent
While the current way you play Amber/Emerald is a pretty hard discard strategy, that doesn’t mean discarding is the only thing at your disposal. Indeed, there are plenty of other tricks up this deck’s sleeves. Namely, there are two strategies apart from discarding that can help you keep ahead of your opponent. These are card removal and stat changes.
Card removal options send cards to the hand or deck
Unlike Ruby decks that are really good at “banishing” cards or sending them to the discard, this deck focus on bouncing opposing characters to the hand or sending them scurrying into the deck.
We’ve already talked about Bruno which doubles as card removal and discard. But you also have the powerful You’re Welcome song which just came out in set five. Included in my list of best cards from the set, You’re Welcome is an easy way to keep your opponent from building up too many characters on the board, removing their capacity to build board advantage.
But wait…there’s more!
You also have Under the Sea which is a powerful counter to aggro decks and The Muses. Countering aggro decks is pretty important right now as they can basically run wild with some of the latest support. You’ll need to ensure they don’t run away with the game before you can build up a strong enough advantage and deplete their resources to near zero.
Stat change abilities help your otherwise weak characters
One glaring weakness you’ll notice right away in this deck is the weak body of your units. That becomes less of an issue, however, when you buff them up via the underrated Cri-Kee or lower your opponent’s power via Kida and Painting the Roses Red.
Both achieve the same thing in making it more plausible for your characters to come out on top in challenges.
Hidden Cove and Rapunzel also add to the Will Power of your characters, which will come in handy so you can keep them around long enough to make an impact.
Prince Naveen is a powerful new character for this deck
Prince Naveen is another one of those “strongest in the set” cards that you should definitely be watching. Any deck that can play him is going to have something of an advantage, as he makes it possible for you to play powerful songs for free. This can be insanely helpful to really dig into your opponent.
Amber/Emerald is here to stay
If you didn’t believe it before, you should now: Amber/Emerald remains to this day a powerful force in the Lorcana meta. And it should be for some time to come.
