New Enchanted Artwork Brings Lorcana to a New Level in Azurite Sea
When it comes to desirable cards in the Lorcana universe, no cards are more highly sought after than the enchanted cards released each set. These cards are insanely difficult to pull and often highly valuable as a result. They also feature alternate and usually very beautiful artwork.
While each set has had its own unique take on the artwork for enchanted cards, Azurite Sea seems to be the biggest divergence yet of all the sets.
Basil – Disguised Detective Enchanted
Instead of some of the hyper-colorful, visually reslendent artworks we’ve had in recent sets, Azurite Sea feels like it’s flipping the script on their own enchanted formula. This image is reminiscent of Davinci’s Vitruvian Man while also it could be an image imprinted on a treasure map.
I think inspiration for this card is being drawn from both sources, and honestly it really works.
Reducing this artwork to its bare bones – a backdrop that looks penciled in by the original artist who created it – is a welcome minimalistic take on alternate artwork that starkly contrasts what we’ve expected so far. In summation, this card basically represents the one thing you can expect from Lorcana sets – to expect the unexpected.
Azurite Sea takes Lorcana to the next level
When I first heard the concept for Azurite Sea, my honest response was that this looks like a filler set. I didn’t doubt that it would be fun, but I had assumed it wouldn’t impact the game much, and would instead be a bridge between the phenomenal Shimmering Skies set and whatever comes next.
Boy was I wrong. Indeed, this set feels instead like it takes Lorcana to a whole new level beyond anything we’ve seen before. Indeed, it’s like every single card we get is part of this fantastical world that the Lorcana team has created.
At first I thought all the nautical theming was something of a gimmick. Instead, we have a TCG set that tells a story throughout each and every card. And it’s gorgeous and memorable. The cards look fun to play, too.
Will every enchanted look like this?
We’ll find out for sure what the rest of these enchanted rare cards look like soon enough, but my guess would be that they will at least follow this sort of artwork thematically if they all look a bit different.
I couldn’t be more excited to set sail on the high Azurite Seas after seeing the kinds of wonders in store for us, lurking just under the surface of unopened packs.
