Pikachu ex Special Illustration Rare Sells for $300 Online

The ultimate chase card from the upcoming Pokemon TCG set, Surging Sparks, has already found buyers online and sold for an astounding $300 (according to market data from TCGPlayer). That’s an incredible price for a current Pokemon card, especially when compared to the kind of prices we’ve seen from cards of similar rarity in recent sets.

Already, many Pokemon TCG collectors and players were eager to get their hands on what many are considering to be the best Pokemon pack of the Scarlet & Violet era. Now, with a potential $300 card waiting for them inside boosters, Pokemon card hunters are going to be even more eagerly pursuing Surging Sparks packs and products, further fueling the hype for this already hyped set.

Will the Pikachu ex SIR retain value?

Typically, cards have their peak value during prerelease when there are very, very few cards available in the wild from any given set. These cards are pulled from prerelease kits you can only get from attending a Pokemon prerelease event. As more packs are opened upon the official release date and beyond, card values taper off.

That being said, it doesn’t always happen like this. Many times cards even go up in value as players realize how rare they actually are.

Cards like Greninja ex from Twilight Masquerade simply stay valuable – case and point that card is worth over $300 at the moment.

Pikachu ex could very well retain that kind of value down the road. I would forsee an immediate dip but it’s likely that its value will only increase possibly beyond even this already impressive $300 amount.

Luckily, Pikachu ex isn’t the only gorgeous Surging Sparks chase card you can get from pulling packs. Indeed, this set is chalk-full of amazing cards. So even if you are shooting for a Pikachu ex and don’t get it, chances are solid you’ll find something else exciting waiting in your Surging Sparks booster packs.
