How the Four Holy Swords deck works
Unlike many decks that focus on a few disparate fighters to help them dominate the battle, Holy Swords is a good old fashioned combo deck – one that requires many moving parts working together to make it strong. Get these moving parts assembled, however, and you should very much be in business.
The key card that makes this deck powerful, however, is none other than the legendary Gekka Tohdoh Fighter
Tohdoh is not only the key component of this deck but also of the Holy Swords group in the show. While not an overwhelmingly powerful mecha like Lancelot or the Guren, Tohdoh’s strength is in how he works with his closely knit team to take out stronger foes.
Just having the Gekka in play lets you boost the BP of your Holy Swords characters. Even better, however, is its ability to restand characters who have already attacked. You can use this combo to take an incredible ammount of life in a single turn, especially when paired with the other Gekka in this deck.
Gekka (Four Holy Swords Fighter)
If you meet the requirements of this Knightmare Frame, you can combo it with Tohdo’s Fighter to do amazing things. The best thing is to use effects from Raid Tohdoh or your Trailer to bolster this character’s attack to 4000 BP+. Once you do that, you can start attacking over and over again, limited only by how many Tohdoh Fighters you have in play.
The way this works is as follows:
Attack with Gekka.
Attack with Tohdoh’s Fighter.
Restand Gekka.
Attack again.
Rinse and repeat for each Tohdoh’s fighter you have in play.
Finding Tohdoh is a primary challenge
As is the case with any deck that relies on a specific key card to make the whole thing work, you’re going to want to make sure you are focused on finding Tohdoh. There are three key cards to make this possible.
Burai Kai is your strongest card search
First of all, the strongest of the three is the Burai Kai Raid.
Capable of being raided on any of your Holy Swords characters or Kyoshiro Tohdoh himself, this card is your primary card search, letting you search the top five cards of your deck for what you need. I typically use this to find my Tohdoh Fighter but it’s also a good way to pick up any other Holy Sword or Tohdoh character you may need.
While this is your strongest option as it lets you search the deepest, you also have the zero-cost Diethard Ried who is capable of removing cards you don’t need from the top of your deck, or the handy Order of the Black Knights which lets you look three cards deep for any Order of the Black Knights card you want.
Energy line setup is a cinch
While many decks I’ve seen tend to want to pair this deck strategy with characters that have two energy generation, in reality you don’t need that as your highest energy character is just a four cost. Instead of loading up your energy line, be efficient as possible, loading it up with low cost characters that can be used as raid targets or just to get around your opponent’s defenses.
Your strongest Holy Swords raid targets
Interestingly enough, the base raid target Holy Sword characters are not the strongest in the world and notably don’t have triggers. In someways this glaring lack of triggers somewhat limits your options in deck building, forcing you to make up the slack elsewhere. you also will not be looking to max these characters out in terms of copies because of the lack of trigger thing.
However, one character in this deck build is so handy that you should look to make him out, and that’s Shougo.
Shougo can easily have his BP enhanced via your Tohdoh fighter or the trailer to be a more offensive threat. Meanwhile, his When Attacking ability more than makes up for his lack of trigger, letting you bring a Holy Sword character back from your discard, including the powerful Tohdo Fighter. This is handy as you can keep recycling the Tohdoh fighter when it is sidelined thanks to Shougo.
This deck is super fun to pilot and makes for an excellent budget option for players who want to be able to compete but don’t want to break their bank. Honestly, most of this deck can be put together from bulk making it very accessible for many.
