Umbreon ex Special Illustration Rare Officially Revealed in English
The most anticipated and hyped card from the upcoming Pokemon TCG: Prismatic Evolutions set (releasing January 17) has had its official reveal in English. See it below.
This card is already expected to be the highest value card in Prismatic Evolutions. Of course, comparisons have inevitably been drawn between this Umbreon ex and the now infamous “Moonbreon” card released in the Sword and Shield era. That card is legendary for its difficulty in being pulled from packs as well as for its extraordinary value, with cards fetching over $1000 ungraded via secondary marketplaces like TCGPlayer.
While I find it unlikely this card will be worth that kind of money fresh out of the pack, it could very well be worth a similar amount if not more than the Pikachu ex SIR from Surging Sparks which blew people away with its incredible demand.
The big unknown here for how valuable this card will be depends on its pull rates. Umbreon VMAX alt art from Sword and Shield was valuable for a combination of the ever popular Umbreon being depicted in it, the unique and gorgeous artwork, as well as its incredible rarity.
If Umbreon ex SIR is easier to pull, it could be worth a fair bit less.
We’ll just have to wait and see if this card fairs as well overtime for collectors but regardless it is a legendary chase card from this set.
Breaking down other aspects of Umbreon ex
Value and artwork aside, this Umbreon ex is noteworthy for its Onyx attack. Like other Stellar Tera Pokemon cards in the game right now, this attack requires multiple disparate energy in order to make it work. While that energy requirement makes it hard for this card to exist in most decks, it could be an interesting tech card for players to use if looking to pull out a seamless victory in a close match.
Of course, I wouldn’t advise anyone to use the SIR version of this card in their competitive deck. Instead, look for one of the double rare versions which you can find in Prismatic Evolutions.
