Pokemon TCG: Shrouded Fable Most Expensive Cards

Pokemon TCG: Shrouded Fable includes many gorgeously illustrated cards that will be valuable to both collectors and players. Focusing on the Pokemon and lore from Kitakami – an Island that is part of the Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Teal Mask DLC – Shrouded Fable’s most expensive cards are the Loyal Three. There are also several nostalgic pulls in this set, including a uniquely illustrated Persian and Horsea.

Most important to Pokemon TCG collectors, however, are the rare and valuable Shrouded Fable chase cards coming out in this set.

In this list, we’ll be looking at the most desirable cards that everyone wants from the set, and diving into what makes them so great. If you pull any of these cards from Shrouded Fable products, make sure to sleeve them up as they could be worth something!

Pecharunt and the Loyal Three: Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti

Pecharunt ex

Pecharunt ex SIR

Listed price: $30.90

This special set is focused around the Loyal Three Pokemon found in Kitakami. As far as legendaries go, this trio is a bit ragtag. I suppose that’s to be expected from this group of Pokemon (according to lore) who were pretty sub-optimal before the mythical Pecharunt got ahold of them.

The artwork here reminds me a great deal of the Ogerpon ex SIRs from Twilight Masquerade. Not because they are so painterly or colorful, but because they abandon the detailed backgrounds found in more recent SIRS in favor of detailed closeups on the Pokemon themselves.

Despite being a bit shadowy, the super closeup does serve to link these cards and the darkness serves to highlight what colors are visible in these frames.

Munkidori ex

Market price $22.68

Okidogi ex

Market price: $28.36

Fezandipiti ex

Fezandipiti ex SIR

Market price: $71.58

These cards are quite rare and are already fetching a decent price on the secondary card market, with Fezandipiti being the most valuable among them.

Loyal Three Illustration Rares

Given Shrouded Fable’s emphasis on the Loyal Three, it’s not super surprising that we would be getting several different versions of the cards as well as several degrees of rarity.

In addition to the ex versions of the Loyal Three which follow the standard rarity (one double rare, one ultra rare and one Special Illustration Rare of each), we are also getting Illustration Rares of the Loyal Three cards that were released in Twilight Masquerade. These cards are entirely different in their abilities and are also single prize Pokemon. Nonetheless, their illustrations are in some ways even more gorgeous, focusing heavily on background artwork inspired by the game, as opposed to the hyper closeup seen in their higher rarity versions.

Munkidori is the most desirable of the Loyal Three Illustration Rares

Munkidori Illustration Rare

Market price: $17.69

We should highlight Munkidori first because this is the one that’s going to be the most popular and expensive of the bunch. Munkidori has been doing very well competitively, and this beautifully rendered card is likely going to find its way into one of the many decks that run this version of the card already.

As we have seen, the ever-growing competitive Pokemon TCG scene has caused alternate artworks of staple cards like Munkidori to sore in value. I for one would be very excited to pull this Munkidori from a Shrouded Fable pack.

You can see the remaining two of the loyal three below and their artworks as well.

Okidogi Illustration Rare

Market price: $9.22

Fezandipiti

Fezandipiti

Market price: $10.90

Earthen Vessel – Hyper Rare

Earthen Vessel

Market price: $51.17

Earthen Vessel is ubiquitous in competitive play, and its run in virtually every deck. Similar to the Buddy-Buddy Poffin Hyper Rare that is among the most valuable cards in Twilight Masquerade, players will be looking to add multiple copies of this valuable card to their decks, thereby driving up its value beyond what its rarity alone would achieve. But it’s not the only valuable hyper rare card from the set.

Basic Darkness Energy – Hyper Rare

Market price: $21.85

Players absolutely love to collect gold versions of energies in order to bling out their deck. Dark-type decks are particularly popular right now, with decks like Roaring Moon ex taking top spots at the World Championships and entrenching itself in the Pokemon meta.

Right now, the darkness energy is just outside the top ten in terms of value and looking like it could hold up its value fairly well overtime.

Cassiopeia Special Illustration Rare – the most expensive card in Shrouded Fable

Cassiopeia

Market price $79.60

While we’ve had several SIR versions of this trainer before, here Penny appears in her disguised form, and indeed she’s got a few new powers up her sleeve that might make this card even more valuable than the last iterations. While the Penny supporter card was handy in certain scenarios, here Cassiopeia lets you add any two cards from your deck into your hand as long as she is the only card in your hand. That’s a pretty insane ability that plenty of decks will want to leverage.

Itriguing art, an iconic character, and a powerful ability will make this SIR highly sought after by both players and collectors, and likely drive up this price to be the most expensive in the set.

Valuable Illustration Rare Cards in Shrouded Fable

An interesting trend that’s been occurring in the latest Pokemon TCG expansions is that while the main chase cards are newly introduced Pokemon, the Illustration Rare cards (sort of the B-string of rare cards in a set) also boast gorgeous artwork with memorable and often well known Pokemon.

While their lesser rarity may suggest that they are less valuable, that isn’t always the case. In fact, popular Pokemon featured as Illustration Rare cards can be among the most expensive in the set. Take, for example, the Illustration Rare Eevee card in Twilight Masquerade which is one of the most valuable new cards of 2024!

Horsea

Horsea Illustration Rare

Market price: $13.94

Persian Illustration Rare

Market price: $29.34

The two that stand out the most to me in the upcoming expansion are Persian and Horsea. Horsea’s artwork is picturesque, reminding me of something out of a Studio Ghibli movie. If any card is a sleeper from this set, it’s this one. There’s no way this card is going to decrease in value overtime and I think it will soon be among the most expensive in the set.

Meanwhile, true Pokemon fans will eat up Persian staring introspectively out the window like catnip.

Houndoom

Houndoom Illustration Rare

Market price: $24.84

Additionally, another nostalgia-fueled Illustration Rare that is also quite gorgeous is the Houndoom card. In general, Houndoom is a pretty underrated Pokemon. This shadowy artwork, however does it justice by leaning into the darker side of its typing and the “shrouded” element of this set. The result is an Illustration Rare card that is at the top of many players list of cards to chase from this set.

Dusknoir evolution line is popular

Duskull Illustration Rare

Market price: $25.67

Dusclops Illustration Rare

Market price: $17.37

Dusknoir Illustration Rare

Market price: $20.53

Another trio of Pokemon Illustration Rare cards that’s turned out to be popular since Shrouded Fable released is the Dusknoir evolution line in their special art forms. These includ: Duskull, Dusclops and Dusknoir.

Of these, Duskull and Dusknoir provide the most value. It’s not hard to see why. On the one hand, these cards feature some pretty cool and spooky artwork. In them you see the eerie ghost Pokemon creeping on dimly lit street corners, behind bushes, and in its ultimate stage, glaring at you through your window.

Beyond the artwork itself, however, Dusknoir is a hugely anticipated Pokemon card for players – helping upgrade existing deck archetypes like Charizard ex to be even stronger.

Special Illustration Collection Promos

Lastly, the special-illustration style Pokemon getting released in the Special Illustration Collections are worth noting. These special illustration style treatments for both Greninja ex and Kingdra ex are beyond gorgeous, and actually my two favorite from the entire set.

Kingdra

Kingdra ex Special Illustration Collection

Greninja ex Special Illustration Collection

While being available in the boxes will likely drive their value down compared to the real SIRs, I still wouldn’t underestimate their value. Most serious Pokemon collectors are going to wan to get their hands on these cards making them chase cards in their own right. In the long run, assuming these boxes don’t get reprinted, they could be worth substantially more.

External factors impacting Shrouded Fable card values

Lastly, one tidbit of information that is helpful to know as you hunt for Shrouded Fable products online or in stores is that one of the hottest Shrouded Fable products, the ETB, won’t be available until much later in the month. As ETBs are the best way to get a lot of packs in a special set, lower availability could drive up demand for individual cards.

If you’re looking to sell your best Shrouded Fable pulls, they will likely be at their peak value before the ETB releases on August 23, 2024.

And that’s it! Those are my top picks for what are likely to be the most expensive chase cards in all of Shrouded Fable. Available as of August 2, 2024, Shrouded Fable will have over 95 cards and surely be an exciting one to pick up online or at stores.
