5 Meta Changing Cards in Pokemon TCG: Stellar Crown

What will the best cards in Stellar Crown be for players?

The biggest impact of this set is going to be felt in how it elevates Tera Pokemon. Whereas Tera typing has mostly just meant Tera Pokemon can’t be damaged on the bench, after this set decks that focus on Tera Pokemon will have some pretty powerful tools at their disposal. This could very well alter the meta into something entirely different than what we know today.

Let’s take a look at the most meta defining cards that will be released in Pokemon TCG: Stellar Crown on September 13, 2024.

#1 Area Zero Underdepths

#1 Area Zero Underdepths

If I had to choose one card from Stellar Crown that is likely to have the biggest impact on the existing Pokemon TCG meta, that card would have to be this one. Giving both players the ability to play a total of eight Pokemon to the bench is pretty crazy, and not something we’ve seen in the game since the days of Eternatus VMAX in the Sword and Shield era of Pokemon TCG.

For those who played back then, you may remember how popular that particular deck was.

However, this stadium could be even more impactful than that strategy was because it can be used with any Tera Pokemon. Of course, which decks care enough to actually use it?

Well, Palkia VSTAR for one. Players are already talking about pairing Palkia VSTAR and his attack that grows stronger with each benched Pokemon with this powerful stadium.

#2 Noctowl

Noctowl

Not only is this Noctowl the most gorgeous and useful Promo we’ve gotten in an ETB in a while, it’s going to utterly change the game. Those of you who have played the game since Sword and Shield will remember the absolute dominance of the Inteleon line and the infamous Shady Dealings.

Noctowl possess an ability that is just as strong if not more balanced, enabling you to choose any two trainer cards from your deck at will. The only catch here is that this only works if you have a Tera type Pokemon in play when it is evolved.

This is going to be absolutely massive for Tera decks, giving them a huge advantage over the competition.

#3 Briar

Briar

Although Tera Pokemon have existed since the beginning of Scarlet and Violet, they’ve been largely gimmicky. That’s not to say that they aren’t powerful. We all know how Powerful Charizard ex is. However, there’s not been any defining support for them other than what’s built into them natively.

That’s going to forever change with Stellar Crown. Already I’ve covered how The Area Zero Underdepths is likely to have a big impact on the meta. However, that’s not the only Tera-specific card that’s coming out. Briar also has the potential to have a large impact on the game, enabling decks running Tera types to quickly leap frog their opponent’s in the prize race.

There are a lot of potential uses for this powerful card and I would expect to see at least one copy of it in most Tera type decks.

#4 Hydrapple ex

Hydrapple ex

Apart from the Palkia VSTAR deck I talked about, Hydrapple ex is likely the other most hyped deck to come out in Stellar Crown. What’s exciting players about this particular card is its interoperability with the already phenomenally popular Teal Mask Ogerpon ex.

These two cards working together gives Hydrapple ex powerful attack scalability that puts it on a whole new level from what we’re accustomed to seeing right now in the game. It could be we finally will have an entirely grass type focused deck in the meta after a long, long time without one.

#5 Tera Trumpet

Lastly, let’s talk about Tera Trumpet. Keeping in theme with the new support for Tera cards, Tera Trumpet can have a pretty big impact on colorless decks. Albeit this is going to be much less broad of an impact than some of these card will have, any deck that runs both Teras and colorless Pokemon will be taking advantage of this powerful energy accelerant.

How big of an impact will Stellar Crown have on the Pokemon TCG meta?

Stellar Crown is going to be a big set for the Pokemon TCG in terms of how it will impact the meta. While this will be focused largely on tera Pokemon, you can expect to see a resurgance in power of Tera type Pokemon cards on the competitive scene, while existing competitive archetypes will also benefit from the many new and powerful cards at their disposal.
