10 Most Valuable Cards in Pokemon Celebrations
Without a doubt, Pokemon Celebrations is one of the best Pokemon packs to buy in recent memory. Named Celebrations because of the celebration of 25 years of Pokemon, this expansion hit it out of the park by delivering actual reprints of classic favorites with very little difference between their look and feel and the original.
But today, which of these cards are the absolute most valuable?
Celebrations is Comprised of Two Pokemon Lists
One thing that makes Celebrations a little bit different than usual Pokemon TCG releases is that it is actually comprised of two different lists of Pokemon cards within one expansion. These are the regular “Celebrations” set and the much more interesting “Classic Collection.”
In this article, however, we’re going to treat these two seperate lists as one and show you which cards are the most valuable from the entire expansion.
That’s relatively easy to do because the mainline Celebrations cards are virtually worthless right now, with all of the value belonging instead to those rarer cards that came in the “Classic Collection.”
The 10 Most Valuable Cards in Pokemon Celebrations
10. ___’s Pikachu
This is a fun little blast from the past. At one point, Pokemon Company did actually release a Pikachu card that allowed fans and collectors to write their names into the card. This is sort of a shoutout to the games in which you can name your cards whatever you want.
While the price tag associated with the Celebrations reprint (close to $6 right now on TCGplayer) isn’t likely to make you rich anytime soon, if you do happen to have the original promo, that is worth a lot more. You can get around $100 for one in near mint condition (meaning you didn’t actually write your name on the card) on the ungraded card market.
9. M Rayquaza EX
Rayquaza is one of the most bankable characters in the Pokemon franchise, and while this reprint might lack some of the wow factor of other reprints on this list given it’s original is not immensely valuable, it’s still a cool card with a cool Pokemon.
8. Gold Poke Ball
If you want to get really technical about it, this card isn’t actually part of the Celebrations set list. Technically. But I think most collectors would consider the now famous (or infamous) Celebrations Ultra Premium Collection, and its promo cards, to be part of the epic release that was Celebrations.
This Gold Poke Ball hasn’t held up extraordinarily well compared to other cards from the same product, but it is still worth a respectable $9 on TCGplayer
7. Shinning Magikarp
Shinning Magikarp (this might sound funny to say) is one of the coolest cards of all time and I deeply regret selling the copy I had as a kid to pay for dates in high school. I love this card, and it is only made all the more epic given the fact that it evolves into one of the most valuable cards of all time – Shining Gyarados.
6. Umbreon Star
This Umbreon Star reprint is particularly fantastic given it is a reprint of one of the most valuable Pokemon cards of all time. The original Umbreon Star saw very limited release, and in graded condition it can fetch exhorbitant prices. This card, however, is worth a respectable $18 in near mint condition, and it’s likely to do well overtime given the incredible history of this card.
5. Mew Secret Rare Gold Card
Everyone loves Mew. This card benefits from being the gold version of a Mew that many players will remember because it actually has seen plenty of gameplay. It looks really cool and is holding up very well in value at about $33 right now. Given how long Celebrations has been out by now, and the fact that a reprint is unlikely, I doubt this value will go down much in the near future.
4. Gold Rare Pikachu V Promo
Like the Gold Poke Ball, this card is also a promo from the epic Celebrations Ultra Premium Collection. However, it has held up considerably better in value since its release. Which isn’t a surprise, really, given it’s Pikachu.
This card is a great collector item and will probably always hold a special place in the heart of collectors who will remember this set and era in Pokemon fondly.
3. Metal Pikachu Card
Following the same lead as the Classic Collection set, we also got a reprint of the original Pikachu card on metal. Because it is on that exclusive list of metal cards from Pokemon, it will likely hold a special place in the hearts of collectors. This card can be obtained via the Celebrations Ultra Premium Collection, and as those won’t likely be reprinted, this card should hold up value overtime (despite the current downward trend in value).
2. Charizard
Speaking of cards that need no introduction – none is more famous than base set Charizard. This card in the Celebrations Classic Collection is a reprint of not only the most valuable version of any Charizard Pokemon card, it is a reprint of the single most expensive Pokemon card of all time.
Having the reprint might not be nearly as valuable (it’s currently worth $77 on TCGplayer), but it is awesome to have a reprint of such a historic card, and opening it in a booster pack is a total thrill.
1. Charizard Metal Celebrations Card
The single most expensive card in all of Pokemon Celebrations is not really a typical card at all. It’s the Charizard Metal Pokemon Card. While this card may not technically be part of the Classic Collection set list, it’s definitely part of the unofficial Celebrations Master list, and will always be associated with that incredible set thanks to the fact you can only get it from the Celebrations Ultra Premium Collection box set.
