Pokemon TCG Favorites Get a New Look in Prismatic Evolutions
Just when we thought Prismatic Evolutions couldn’t get any more hype than it already has, we get this: an insane reveal featuring some of the most popular Pokemon cards of the Scarlet and Violet era of Pokemon TCG getting gorgeous new special illustration rare artworks.
New artworks revealed for popular Scarlet & Violet era Pokemon
We’ve already covered the Eeeveelutions in detail that will be included in this set. While these Eeveelutions are essentially new to the current game (no Eeveelution ex Pokemon have been released in the Scarlet & Violet era), there are seemingly a multitude of alternate artworks (special illustration rare) of known and well-loved cards included in this set.
Roaring Moon ex – Special Illustration Rare
Some of these artworks are absolutely stunning. Take, for example, the new special illustration rare Roaring Moon ex getting released in this set.
To be honest with you, this may be one of my favorite artworks of any Pokemon card ever. I mean…saying it’s next level is almost not doing it justice. It almost looks like a woodcut print enhanced with a sketch-like drawing and imbued with incredible colors. It’s absolutely an insane rendition of this Ancient Pokemon that speaks to the very core of what the Ancient Pokemon phenomenon is all about.
You totally feel the terror of letting this Pokemon out on the unknowing world.
It’s crazy that this version of Roaring Moon ex would be so epic when the original SIR of this card released back in Paradox Rift was also quite good. But this one totally blows it out of the water making me wonder – how could so many gorgeous secret rare cards be packed into one set?
Raging Bolt ex – Special Illustration Rare
I also prefer this set’s Raging Bolt ex SIR over the one we got in Temporal Forces. Here we get up-close-and-personal with this vengeful beast that has proven itself to be a major force in the competitive Pokemon TCG scene. This totally looks like a dragon from some mythical story printed in the same iconic and timeless fashion as the above Roaring Moon ex.
Both of these Pokemon are insanely popular in the Pokemon TCG, with Raging Bolt ex considered one of the best cards in the game, while Roaring Moon ex has been a pillar of the game since it came out, if not exactly part of the meta at the moment.
While these two are my favorite of the special illustration rare cards included in this set, many more interesting ones have been revealed (which you can see below).
Pokemon aren’t the only ones getting a new look in Prismatic Evolutions
If there’s one unifying theme I can put my finger on in Prismatic Evolutions (other than the Eeveelution thing which is a big part of it) it’s that we’re getting a whole new take on previously popular characters. While that means first and foremost popular Pokemon, it also means getting supporters we’ve seen one way in the past getting a makeover in this special set.
The most jarring of these are the bosses of Team Star. We’ve seen these in various forms throughout the many sets of Scarlet and Violet. However, in Prismatic Evolutions we get an entirely different lineup of these bosses as they would have appeared during their classroom days.
The differences is pretty startling. See for yourself in the gallery below.
I’m not gonna lie – I prefer Team Star in their rockstar versions. But this is still a cool concept which ties in with the broader artistic vision of the set.
All-in-all, this set is feeling almost too good to be true. Chalk-full of an insanely large load of secret rare cards, Eeveelutions, and reimagined artworks for some of our favorite cards, Prismatic Evolutions looks like it very well could be the greatest set so far in Scarlet & Violet.
