UNION ARENA: Sword Art Online Set Announced for English Version
UNION ARENA’s next IP has been announced for the English version, and it is the phenomenal Sword Art Online!
While an official release date hasn’t been given, it’s listed on the official website as coming sometime after the already announced releases. Given the TCG’s current pace of releases, it’s likely the set will see its release sometime next year.
Sword Art Online is another massive property for UNION ARENA
Already, UNION ARENA is a hit in the West. Stores everywhere seem to be selling out of booster boxes that contain rare and valuable cards. And it’s no wonder why. While other card games have included crossovers from anime, none comes close to the mass appeal of UNION ARENA. Indeed, it’s hard to think of a major Anime that isn’t included in UA’s impressive lineup.
Spoilers for UNION ARENA: Sword Art Online
While we haven’t actually seen any of the officially revealed cards for Sword Art Online’s English set (and probably won’t for a while as we’re still working our way through spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen), there has already been a Sword Art Online set released in the Japanese version of UA. While these sets are a close match to the English version, not all cards are always included. Still, we can get a fair idea of what the top chase cards are going to be from this set based on the parallel arts already available overseas.
Here are a few images of the products released in Japan.
Why is getting Sword Art Online in the English version a big deal?
Just because a set is released in Japan doesn’t necessarily mean we will be getting that set in the English version. There’s other things that factor into whether or not a product is included based on things like who owns the license to a given property.
Until a set is officially announced to be part of the English version of the game – indeed until even a card is officially announced (cards have already been omitted in the existing English version sets) – we don’t know for sure that they will be included.
Regardless, UNION ARENA has been off to a great start in North America. Massive tournaments have already sold out, and prices for chase cards are skyrocketing. Local Store Tournaments have also been well attended, with plenty of incentives for players to give the game a try in person, supported by gorgeous winner cards and even packs just for participating.
Sword Art Online coming to the English version will just further kindle the excitement we are all feeling for the next big TCG!
