UNION ARENA: The Most Exciting Demon Slayer Cards
UNION ARENA’s fifth set, Demon Slayer, is nearly here, and with it a host of interesting new card mechanics. While I’m most excited about the Red deck right now, each color brings with it a unique take on gameplay and a plethora of strategies that will be fun to see in combat.
What cards should you keep an eye on the most?
Below, I’ll be highlighting the cards I’m most excited for from this promising new set.
Muzan Kibutsuji
I’m going to start this list with Muzan Kibutsuji and that’s not because he’s necessarily the strongest card coming out in this set so much as it is the fact we’ve never had anything quite like him before. Indeed, having both Impact 2 and Damage 2 is insane, with the only problem with him being the fact that he can’t enter your frontline until you have 20 or more cards in your sideline. That’s a lot of cards even for decks that focus on getting cards into the sideline.
Still, the fact that he has two energy cost is a huge benefit, meaning you can leave him resting on your energy line until the time comes you need him to enter the fray.
Inosuke Hashibira
I’m really liking this card. You can use it as something of a battering ram against your opponent’s defenses, enabling you to take either two damage or a life via Impact depending on the situation. Because he’s only a four energy character you could easily use him to sneak attack your opponent if they aren’t expecting him, and his high BP means he will be getting through most of the targets on your opponent’s field.
The main draw back is that you are going to be sidelining him at the end of your attack phase, making him not exactly a strong defensive play.
Zenitsu Agatsuma
This Zenitsu card has one of the strongest search engines in the game so far, letting you look seven cards deep for a Raid character card and add it to your hand. That reminds me of the Pizza Deck I love so much from Code Geass only Raid characters tend to be more handy than Pizza.
Giyu Tomioka
Getting Giyu added to the game is very exciting as we don’t have many Nulify Impact cards with additional upsides to encourage us to use them. Tomioka not only protects you from impact but also has a strong “When Played” ability that keeps him protected from most threats until your next turn. This sort of fits with his abilities we’ve seen from the show where he uses unique forms like Deep Calm to make him impervious to his opponents.
The only downside of this card is that it sort of feels like a waste to throw away a 4000 BP character to block an impact if you don’t have to. However, this could also mean the difference between life and death so I’m willing to give him a try. Lastly, it’s important to note that his when played effect that keeps him safe from events and characters sidelining him doesn’t apply to death via BP reduction. So don’t throw this out there against Purple BLEACH hoping it will save your life!
Nezuko Kamado
Lastly, this Nezuko raid character feels pretty strong especially if you use her to protect your Tanjiro. One big problem you typically face in this game is that your strongest characters get killed off before you can use them for more than a turn. Use Nezuko and you are guaranteed to at least have a strong Tanjiro character to replenish your front line with next turn!
Purge
Lastly, Purge feels like a really strong draw engine. While most Event cards that let you draw tend to come at a steep cost because they require you to use AP to play them, this has the added benefit of enabling you to switch your card to active after playing it and draw two cards. This also helps you fuel your sideline with more cards so you can get your Muzan into play earlier.
