Aladdin – Heroic Outlaw: Ruby/Steel Deck List and Strategy

In this deck list featuring cards from the the Disney Lorcana: First Chapter set, we’re going to be focusing on a deck that leverages Ruby’s incredible board control power and Steel’s draw support. Specifically, Alladin – Heroic Outlaw is the main attacker and key card of this deck, so you could also consider it an Alladin – Heroic Outlaw Ruby/Steel deck.

In Disney Lorcana right now, there are relatively limited cards that provide the ability to draw more cards. This means that powerful decks focused primarily on offense find themselves quickly running out of cards and playing with very little resources.

Steel is a contender for the best Ink in the game right now for this reason – it has unparalled access to draw support.

In this strategy guide, we’re going to dive into how you can use Ruby/Steel, share some basic strategy, and review what the key cards are that really make this deck work.

As the game is new and the meta is always changing, especially as new expansions are released, make sure to check back often.

Ruby/Steel Core Deck Strategy Guide

Here are some of the key strategic elements you are going to need to keep in mind when playing this deck.

Early Bird Gets the Worm – Prioritize Playing Captain Hook or Simba Turn One

Playing this Ruby/Steel deck is great because it’s relatively straightforward. The deck is designed to maximize draw support while letting your powerful Ruby characters do their thing. Of course, it’s always nice to gain an early advantage. For that reason, this deck runs four copies of Simba – Future King and Captain Hook – Aggressive Duelist.

By having so many cost 1 characters, you’re more likely to get a turn one play, which means that by your second turn, you can already quest. That might not sound like a huge deal, but any advantage helps.

On that note, Simba is an incredibly useful card thanks to its draw ability, so you are likely going to want to play it anytime it’s in your hand.

Fire the Cannons to Break Up Your Opponent’s Defensive Line

Fire the canons is a phenomenal card, especially early game where you can use it to take pot shots at your opponent’s characters before they even have a chance to quest.

As play progresses, you can use Captain Hook – Captain of the Jolly Roger to bring those useful Canon cards back into your hand. This is helpful not only to take additional shots at opposing characters – you can also use this to gain more cards in your hand to help with your draw cards. Simba, Ransack and Tinker Bell, for example, require you to discard a card after you draw.

Establish Your Draw Engine

The draw engine for this Ruby/Steel deck consists of several key cards. Those are: Tinker Bell – Tiny Tactician, Beast’s Mirror, Simba – Future King, Ransack, and the phenomenal Show You the World. The main board setup you are going to need other than making sure you have an Aladdin in play is to get these cards setup.

Ruby burns through cards quickly, so without a strong draw engine in play, it’s going to be hard for you to win with this deck.

Perhaps the most critical of all these cards to have in play is the Beast’s Mirror card, as it enables you to draw a card when your hand is empty. Thanks to Ransack and Tinker Bell, that one card can quickly turn into many more options as you draw and discard your way to more resources.

Play ‘Show You the World’ Strategically

Once you have the Ink to pull it off, Show You the World can be a massively strategic card that you can use to your advantage. Ideally, you would only use this card when your opponent has a lot of cards and you have almost none.

Make sure never to play this card if you have a strong lead and your opponent has limited cards in hand. Giving him/her 7 new cards could cost you the game.

Aladdin – Heroic Outlaw is this Deck’s Key Card

Aladdin is the core attacker of this deck, and can be played for only 5 Inks thanks to his Shift ability.

It’s not an overstatement to say Aladdin is the key card of this entire deck. As such, you are going to want to prioritize getting him into play, and then protecting him once he is in play. There are a few ways you can do this.

For starters, equip him with the Shield of Virtue. That way, after Aladdin challenges, you can defend him by switching him back into the ready position. You can also play Hercules to draw heat off of Aladdin while he’s taking out opponents and gaining you Lore while taking your opponent’s Lore away.

Ruby/Steel Situational Cards and Endgame

While Aladdin is your main attacker, providing offense and defense all in one, you have a range of other cards that you will need in order to defeat particularly tough opponents.

Brave Little Tailor

Mickey BLT is one of your strongest allies in the race to 20 Lore.

Of these, the most powerful one is Mickey – Brave Little Tailor. While Aladdin is hacking and slashing his way to victory, use Brave Little Tailor to gain Lore while staying protected thanks to his Evasive ability. Mickey can also be used to fight, but doing so is a bit of a waste given his three Lore.

Use Rapunzel to Diminish Your Opponent’s Lore

By the time you have Aladdin and Mickey Mouse on the field, you should be hurtling quickly to 20 Lore. In order to ensure you get their before your opponent does, this deck includes three copies of Rapunzel. Rapunzel pairs well with Aladdin, enabling you to take three whole Lore from your opponent the turn you play her and banish a character with Aladdin.

Apart from being a great way to deny your opponents Lore and slow them down, Rapunzel is a great utility card, enabling you to take key challenges, while also Questing for two Lore.

Situational Cards to Keep in Mind

In addition to Mickey, this deck also provides a range of situational cards. These cards aren’t fundamental to the strategy of this deck but can help bring you over the line depending on what’s going on in the game These are:

  • “Be Prepared” to banish all characters and restart the playing field when you have an unfavorable board (unlike most decks, this one only runs one copy because the goal would be to not have an unfavorable board late game).

  • The Beast to banish items you don’t want your opponent to have.

  • Mulan to eke out additional Lore from your characters.

  • Stitch to hasten your way to victory with its 3 Lore.

  • Grab Your Sword to devastate your opponent’s board late game while maintaining your advantage.
