Online Tournaments Have Come to Lorcana TCG
It’s funny that online tournaments would be such a big deal for a trading card game that actually has no official web-based app to enable virtual play. However, thanks to innovations from fans (namely the ultra popular Pixelborn gaming app), players are now set to face off in massive tournaments online.
The latest online tournament took place on Lorcana Play Network, and it dished out a total of 1k in prizes. That’s pretty incredible given players didn’t have to actually pay anything in order to compete.
But Lorcana Play Network isn’t the only place now serving the fast growing Disney Lorcana TCG community. Limitless TCG has also begun supporting Disney Lorcana tournaments. That’s pretty big news for many card players as they are already used to the impeccable Limitless TCG tournament interface and system.
We still haven’t heard many details about the upcoming 2024 Lorcana competitive season, but it will be interesting to see how the official Lorcana circuit is able to compare to the rapidly growing online competitive scene.
Advantages to online play for Lorcana players
There are definite advantages to playing Lorcana in person. You get to make new friends, handle your favorite cards, bling out your deck with rare versions of those cards, enjoy collecting your favorite sleeves, deck boxes etc. However, there are also incredible advantages to playing online.
While it can be difficult to find a healthy competitive Lorcana scene nearby, anytime you want to play a battle online at any given time via Pixelborn, you can find someone to face off against.
Additionally, I also often find competitive play online more rewarding. In fact, at the top most competitive level, I actually prefer it. While meeting up locally each Friday night at my Lorcana league is great to practice, get input on strategies, and socialize with people of similar interests, playing competitively online removes a lot of the nuances and difficulties of playing competitive trading card games.
It makes shuffling easier, handling cards easier, and most of all it removes what many players really dislike – judge calls intended to gain an advantage
Competitive play punishes you for errors
While the majority of card players are good, friendly people, the exception is what proves the rule. And there are always those card players who will do anything and everything to win. This means making judge calls in hopes of slowing your momentum down or to get you off guard and the like.
What really is awesome about competing via online tournaments is that in many cases you get the chance to meet new people online via Discord servers, play at the most competitive level imaginable with the best players around the world, without the errors that come from playing card games in real life, and the ensuing penalty attempts.
My home also usually smells a bit better than most card shops I’ve been to. So there’s that.
Playing Lorcana online is a fantastic option for competitive players – I hope to see the online scene only grow as Lorcana continues to establish itself as one of the top TCGs in the world!
