Tiana Aggro Deck Strategy
Tiana Aggro focuses on using a plethora of bodyguard characters to protect high quest characters long enough for them to gain some significant lore.
But first, you need to get these high questing characters into play. Turn one, you’re looking to get either Lilo or Pluto into play. This deck also runs four copies of Captain Hook – Forceful Duelist, which is actually kind of a little odd because he’s not going to be getting a lot of lore for you. But, in reality, he’s a strong card in just about any deck, and can help your opponent from outpacing you with his powerful Challenger +2 ability.
Pluto can help you play powerful characters much more quickly, or increase the number of characters you have in play, depending on what the strategy calls for. This also makes him a vital character to play in this deck.
Turn two: bodyguards and Piglet
Turn two brings about several powerful options to either help protect your characters or keep expanding your footprint. If your Lilo is in danger of being threatened by an opposing character, you might work to quickly play your Simba or Kida bodyguard characters, ensuring she has more time to gain you valuable lore.
Meanwhile, if you are in the clear, Piglet is a strong character to play. Start questing with him right away and you’ll be able to start gaining even more lore.
Last but not least this deck runs the two-cost Smee. He’s a nice multipurpose character, capable of taking out opposing characters or locations, and also questing for two lore a pop. He has an ability that causes him to take damage when you don’t have a captain character in play. However, you have several captain characters in this deck so that won’t be too much of an issue if you play your cards right.
Turn three: more bodyguards
Players are already starting to realize how impactful the new Baloo bodyguard can be. While he may not have any strength, he forces your opponent to attack into him, granting you extra lore that can be vital on your race to twenty.
Of course, this deck also runs the bodyguard staple, The Prince – Never Gives Up. Not only is the Prince hard to banish in a challenge thanks to his Resist +1 keyword ability, he’s got two lore himself, making him helpful when he quests, not just as a beefy defender.
You also have Doc as an option to play on turn three. And while most of the time you’ll probably go with one of these Bodyguards, getting Doc out early can help you play even more high questing characters down the line or even get your Mufasa out earlier. Pairing Doc’s “Share and Share Alike” with Pluto’s “Good Dog” can be used to either play more characters quickly or seriously reduce the cost of bigger characters like Mufasa or Tiana.
Four-cost all-stars
Next up on the lineup we have three seriously effective cards, and one of them is so important to this deck strategy that the deck itself takes its name from her: Tiana.
Tiana is a seriously strong card that was mostly overlooked over the course of The Rise of the Floodborn competitive season. Now, however, she’s widely played and accepted as a good counter to many top Lorcana meta decks.
As a card, she has a lot going for her – things like Resist +2 and two lore value. However, what really makes her stand out is her ability.
What You Give is What You Get blocks your opponent from playing action or song cards, meaning as long as you have zero cards in your hand, you are perfectly safe from the likes of Be Prepared, And Along Came Zeus, or Grab Your Sword (among others).
Tiana’s ability isn’t the only thing preventing your opponent from using some of their best cards on you. The Bare Necessities can also impact the game positively for you, using it to discard songs or actions when you don’t have Tiana in play, or discarding other powerful cards like locations or items when Tiana is already in play.
Because of this advantage, this deck actually runs almost no draw support cards. After all, you want to have as little cards in your hand as possible to ensure your opponent is seized up. However, in scenarios where you need to draw cards, you have the famous Rapunzel – Gifted with Healing.
Gleam and Glow lets you heal damage from your characters and draw cards for each damage healed in this way (also helpful if you have some bodyguard characters who have taken a hit).
Meanwhile, this deck runs four copies of a certain puppy called Lucky. Lucky is great if you have plenty of characters out (something made easier via Doc and Pluto) as he grants additional lore value to each of them. This makes winning the race ahead of your opponent building up enough obstacles to stop you much easier.
Don’t underestimate Mufasa
Earlier renditions of Tiana Aggro left out one key component – Mufasa. Mufasa helps in a variety of situations, helping keep this character deck flowing by letting you play a character for free from the top of your deck. While Mufasa isn’t core to this deck’s strategy, its certainly a helpful card that can quite honestly win you the game in many tight situations.
All-in-all, Tiana Aggro has certainly benefited from the new cards revealed in Into the Inklands, and she’s likely going to remain a staple in this next exciting season of Lorcana: Into the Inklands.
