10 Most Competitive Cards from Rise of the Floodborn
Updated November 21, 2023 – Now that every single card from Rise of the Floodborn has been released, we’re updating this list to include the very best cards to be revealed so far. In this list, we’re going to be highlighting the best cards from each ink type in Rise of the Floodborn.
*Updated November 27th to include cards that have seen success already in competitive play.
Cinderella – Ballroom Sensation is deceptively powerful. While that might sound a little funny for a card that is only a cost of one and low stats otherwise, her power lies in her unprecedented Singer 3 ability, enabling her to sing powerful songs like Let the Storm Rage On as early as turn two. Already, Cinderella is being used at competitive tournaments and winning.
This is a tough one simply because there are several strong Amber cards worth mentioning. However, of those, my money is on the Queen to be considered the strongest. Granting four strength while also taking it from a character is a strong ability, and it can be paired really well with cards like Alice – Growing Girl to get a lot of lore quickly. Not to mention you can shift her for just the cost of two if you already have a cost one The Queen – Regal Monarch in play.
There are a lot of strong Ruby cards revealed in this expansion. However, Scar – Vicious Cheater might just be the strongest of them all. He’s also undoubtedly the strongest character with the Rush keyword ability in the game right now. He’s being used chiefly in the Sapphire/Ruby deck, helping players gain total dominance over the board.
Belle – Hidden Archer boasts an incredible defensive ability, clearing out your opponent’s hand if they dare to challenge her. Undoubtedly, players will rarely opt to challenge her. This could pair well with existing Emerald/Sapphire decks that play Aurora – Dreaming Guardian to grant ward, making Belle’s ability very strategic indeed.
Prince John is probably the single most effective card released for the Emerald ink type in Rise of the Floodborn. With it players can take advantage of Emerald’s various, powerful discard cards and also have one of the most powerful draw engines in the game.
The only limited aspect of Prince Jonn is that he only really works in discard decks. However, in the current meta, discard decks are quite, quite strong, so he sees a fair deal of play.
Madam Mim – Purple Dragon is one of the strongest Lorcana cards of all right now. Her ability pairs very well with other key cards in Rise of the Floodborn – particularly the cards that focus on using the Merlin/Madam Mim combos that benefit from cards being returned to your hand.
I can’t think of a single card with better stats than this one, and its ability combined with being Evasive only furthers this particular dragon’s might.
Are the Ravensburger game designers paying attention to the current meta? Cause this card seems to fit in really well with the current best deck in format, Amber/Steel.
While this card is really, really strong, the only potential issue I see here is having such a combat focused character also have such high lore value. I guess that’s alright, making her more of a multipurpose card.
Either way, this is easily one of the best Rise of the Floodborn cards to be revealed so far.
What if the Beast had never changed back to a human? That’s what this card looks like is what happened. Lore aside, Beast – Tragic Hero is seriously strong, and this is one card that’s likely to see A LOT of play. “It’s Better This Way” is undoubtedly one of the strongest abilities in the game right now, letting you either draw an extra card each turn passively or gain four strength.
Speaking of Ink types that lack draw support, Gaston gives pretty powerful draw support to Sapphire. Gaston will certainly be a good alternative to the other cost six draw support character, Robin Hood, thanks to its much improved drawing capabilities. We like the way this card finds synergy with the other phenomenal draw support card Sapphire has – Develop Your Brain.
I got this legendary rare Alice in a pack on release day. However, I had no idea then just how rare and powerful this card actually was. It’s clearly one of the chase cards of Rise of the Floodborn, and easily one of the strongest cards. Alice works best when paired with an Amber Ink that runs The Queen – Commanding Presence. The Queen can easily scale Alice’s strength up, and all it takes is her and one other character in play to start packing up a lot of lore.
